Robbie Fowler scored in first half stoppage time to give Liverpool reserves a one goal advantage over Wigan Athletic at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground. Fowler prodded home from virtually on the goalline after ex Manchester United keeper Gary Walsh fumbled a towering header by skipper Jack Hobbs.
Robbie Foy had twice gone close to giving Liverpool the lead, but one shot went inches wide and the other was well saved by Walsh. The reds were fortunate not to be a couple of goals down however, as Andreas Johansson has missed two absolute sitters for Wigan.
Fowler has been withdrawn at half time, presumably to be replaced by Ramon Calliste.
We will have a brief report on here at full time.
