A bullet header from striker Craig Lindfield gave Liverpool's u18 side a crucial 1-0 win over Manchester United at the Academy this morning. Having lost out to top of the table Blackburn Rovers last week, the reds needed a result against second placed United, and fully deserved the three points following an impressive display.
The reds just about shaded an entertaining first half, and Lindfield was twice denied by the United keeper following good moves by the reds. The only goal of the game came two minutes after the break, when Jordan Holmes whipped in a great cross and Lindfield powered a header past the keeper.
Three minutes later great play from substitute James Frayne set up Lindfield for another strike at goal, but the keeper again made a superb save and also denied Ryan Wignall's follow up effort. Lindfield saw another header crash back off the bar not long afterwards, as Liverpool really turned on the style in the second half.
United rallied late on and Dave Roberts had to make a couple of good saves, but the reds defence held firm to record an impressive victory.
