Danny Guthrie was in terrific form for Liverpool reserves, but overall it was a disappointing night as Middlesbrough ran out 4-1 winners on a freezing cold night on Teesside. The scoreline certainly doesn’t reflect the balance of the game, as Liverpool actually performed very well for long periods of the match.
The game was played at Billingham Synthonium, a place I can’t stand. It’s a hell of a long journey, and not somewhere I have fond memories of. Last season a massive thunderstorm delayed the kick off, and if I remember rightly we lost the game to a last minute goal. This time there was no thunder and lightning, it was just freezing cold.
