Scottish club Hearts' obsession with Liverpool continues, and is now in danger of reaching stalker-like proportions. Having agreed in principal to sign Darren Potter and Francis Smith, the Edinburgh club have also asked about numerous other players including David Raven, Neil Mellor and Anthony Le Tallec.
In a bizarre new twist however, the Scottish outfit asked the reds if they could also have midfielder Carl Clampitt (pictured). If you haven't heard of Carl, that's because he quit the club's Academy three years ago to join Preston. He realised he wasn't going to get a professional contract with the reds, and took up an offer from the Lancashire club in the hope of securing first team football.
Unfortunately for Carl his progress was halted when he sustained a serious knee injury, and was released from Deepdale when his contract expired. Carl has recently been playing for Camel Lairds, so you can imagine the lad's surprise when he was asked to go up to Scotland because Hearts wanted to sign him.
It was a dream move for a lad who must have thought his chances of making it as a pro had all but disappeared. Personal terms were agreed, and the deal was all set to go through. Then the dream turned into a nightmare as a failed medical scuppered the deal.
It's a sad story and a real shame for Carl, but it doesn't portray Hearts in a particularly good light when they're asking about players who left three years earlier.
Hearts new owners clearly have an obsession with all things Liverpool, but it seems their information is a little out of date. So if anyone from Tynecastle is reading this, you may find

Meanwhile, TLW sources in Edinburgh claim that the delusional Hearts owners have also made a hugely unrealistic enquiry about at least one regular Liverpool first team player. We believe it to be someone who only joined the club this summer (probably Sissoko), but aren't 100% sure who it was. Liverpool were surprised, to put it mildly.
