Florent Sinama-Pongolle scored and was later sent off, as the ressies fought back to claim a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Racecourse Ground. Liverpool had trailed at the break, but the French striker levelled the scores five minutes after the restart, when he finished from close range after Nicky Weaver had flapped at Guthrie's cross.
Ramon Calliste had three great opportunites to win the game for the reds in the second half, but was unable to convert any of the chances. Sinama-Pongolle also dragged a shot wide, before he was dismissed with five minutes remaining for something he said to a linesman after he was denied what looked a clear cut penalty.
The French striker had been in excellent form and was causing City's backline all kinds of problems along with the pacey Calliste. The reds will feel they should have won the game after their improved second half display.
