Liverpool's u18 side went down to a 1-0 home defeat to Everton at the Academy this morning. Victor Anichebe's first half strike was enough to give the blues the points, despite Liverpool dominating after the break and creating numerous goal scoring opportunities. The best chances fell to striker Michael Nardiello, but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping ensured that the reds drew a blank.
To make matters worse for John Owens, he also lost midfielder Ryan Flynn to what looked a very serious injury. The young Scot was the victim of a dangerous high tackle from behind, which amazingly failed to even result in a free kick. Flynn remained on the ground hardly moving, and after lengthy examination from medical staff he was stretchered from the field.
Jimmy Ryan (pictured) was outstanding in the centre of midfield, whilst left winger Adam Hammill and substitute Charlie Barnett showed up well in the second half.
