Two second half goals from Charlie Barnett helped the reds u18 side secure a 3-1 win over Leeds at the Academy this afternoon. Craig Lindfield gave Liverpool the lead in the first half, latching onto a clever flick from Conal Platt and lashing home a powerful shot. It was the striker's fourth goal of the season.
Barnett added a second after the break with a cool finish after good approach play from Lindfield, and although Leeds pulled a goal back Barnett finished them off with a header following a wonderful cross by substitute James Frayne.
The victory was marred however by what looked like a serious injury to Jay Spearing. The young defender had to be carried from the field in a leg brace after winning a fifty fifty tackle. There was a loud crack as he collided with the Leeds player and he was clearly in a great deal of pain. Hopefully it isn't as bad as it looked, or sounded.
