The reds' reserves lost their opening game of the season, going down 3-2 to Everton at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground. Paco Herrera's side were two down at the break, and it was quickly three not long after the interval. The game turned with the introduction of fit again Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who replaced Ryan Wilkie after 51 minutes.
Flo scored within five minutes of coming on, and caused the blues all sorts of problems. Danny Guthrie pulled another goal back with five minutes left when he spectacularly volleyed in from 18 yards, but the blues held on despite having a player sent off for a second yellow card after 86 minutes.
New boys Godwin Antwi, Jack Hobbs and Antonio Barragan all completed 90 minutes. Godwin was used as a lone striker, Hobbs played a midfield holding role and Barragan was at right back.
