'Miki' was brought to the club by Paco Herrera, who had spotted him playing in the youth side at Spanish minnows Llieda. Little was expected of a player who didn't have much of a pedigree, but his first season in England was an unqualified success.
He was arguably the reserves' most consistent performer, excelling in a variety of roles across midfield and defence, and he also played a significant part in the FA Youth Cup success, coming off the bench to score at Anfield in the 1st leg of the final. He came off the bench in the 2nd leg too, and helped to stem the tide as Manchester City threatened to stage an unlikely comeback from 3-0 down.
'Miki' has become a mainstay of the reserve side, and was rewarded for his consistency when he was handed his first team debut as a substitute in a Champions League game at Galatasaray in December 2006, and has also forced his way into the Spanish u19 squad.
He joined Oldham Athletic on loan in March 2007 until the end of the season, and spent the following campaign on loan at Spanish Second Division outfit Xerez CD.
