Not something I'll ever understand to be honest (bit like gays - just don't "get" it - not that I've anything against them).

Why do adults want to abuse kids? This a map showing how child porn has been downloaded 14 million times over the past 3 years:





Scary for any of you parents living between London & Birmingham. And yet this is only the UK - imagine what it must be like in places like Cambodia and Mexico.

Is it a genetic disorder or are they products of their environment (e.g. abused as children)?

Ever seen the programme on FX called "To catch predator".They lure peadophiles into a location where they think they are going to meet up with a 13 year old girl /boy.When they get there the presenter /investigator comes out and confronts them. They then leave the house only to be arrested .
Not comfortable viewing at all but it does make you realise it is an evil world and you really have to keep an eye o your kids.

EVERY FUCKER who does this knows its wrong, they do it, they don't have too. I'm not having the 'its not my fault, i have an illness' or it 'happened to me as a child so i thought it was normal to do it to my child/nice/nephew' line'.

Estimates now state that at least 1 in 4 males & 1 in 3 females will have survived some form of sexual abuse before reaching the age of 18!

In the UK, that accounts for almost 21% of the population! So out of this 21% of the population, they go on to abuse again? at that rate it would be plausible to think that over time every person in the UK has at some point been victim of sexual abuse.

how the fuck do you work that out to be ludicrous? i once read that as an adult female, 1 in 2 will be victims of some variant of abuse by the time they are 26... off hand i myself would say it was higher for sexual abuse then that stat shows, will get a few links out for you.

What is child sexual abuse?

Just because Strontium Dog has identified why paedophiles do what they do, doesn't mean he condones it. Most Paedophiles are otherwise seemingly normal people and not this ridiculous idea of some kind of cartoonish devil. This doesn't diminish the horrible acts they perform.

I'd agree that they're not some cartoonish devil, but the majority that I've met are not seemingly normal. The odd one or two are, but most come over as dysfunctional and unable to form proper adult relationships, and are almost universally a bit odd. There is almost always something a bit creepy in their manner. I've always got the impression that the reason they target children is because they don't feel as inadequate compared to a child as they do to an adult, and that children are more accepting of their oddities.
