Mmmm (I think)

no, grilled cheese is pretty much as advertised. two slices of bread slathered with butter and grilled with a beautiful thick slice of cheddar (or other) cheese in the middle. you have to flip it to grill both sides to golden perfection.
some people might add bacon or tomato to the mix, but i'm a traditionalist myself.
the ketchup component cannot be overlooked. a good quality ketchup (slighly chilled) is essential and adds magic to the meal.
by the way, it was my trans-continental tastes that brought peanut butter and banana sandwiches to north london in the early 90's. i'm sure it is all the rave throughout england now.
i used to make them for my aunt and send her off to the factory with them. i remember that she met initially with resistance and uncertainty, but soon they gained acceptance and popularity with the workers.

Re: What is your favourite sandwich?
You do know that if you grate that cheese and mix in an egg yoke you get an even better creation. Seriously!
You can still grill it but its easier just to whack in the oven for 6 minutes.

yeah, but then you would have to grate the cheese and separate and add an egg.
the beauty of a perfect grilled cheese sandwich lies in the simplicity.

thanks - i wanted to use the word 'sublime' but had already used it on the FF this morning.
it's the kind of word you have to use sparingly.
i'm curious now - has anyone had a peanut butter and banana sandwich before ?
you don't know what you're missing......

Re: What is your favourite sandwich?
I tend to have tuna mayo on wholemeal bread mon and tuesday then usually ham or some other sliced meat along with cheese mayo and lettuce on the same bread. Sometimes, after we have a roast dinner, I make a sandwich based on the left overs - some of the roast meat, sliced up roast potato, slice of bread soaked in the gravy. yum. fav sandwich is the meatball sub.
Does anyone else supplement their sandwich with extra grub and if so what - I tend to sometimes go for a sausage roll, crisps, apple and a choc bar. And sometimes soup.
