Re: Dublin for New Year?
I went 2005 Tomarse, and was pretty much gutted at how rubbish it was for new year.
Saying that, you'd probably be frequenting more salubrious establishments than we did.

Re: Dublin for New Year?
I find it hard to believe that Dublin was "rubbish". I've been there twice and it was superb. Friendly people and lots of Guinness, what more can you ask for?
For New Year Day's parties I've heard that Edinburgh is the place to go. Gotta love Edinburgh as well as Dublin.

Go to Spiders in Hull. £5 in and cheap drinks all night.
One of the best new years I've ever had, I'm not a big fan of going out on New Year and would quite fancy getting away myself.

Re: Dublin for New Year?
Yeah man, I've pretty much hated every New Year for the last 10 years. I've spent every one at the same shit house party with the same fucking people. This year I want to get away for New Year and also Christmas.
I'm beginning to resent that, "but it's Christmas/New Year! We've always done this at Christmas/New Year" mentality.
So fucking if that's what's always happened? That doesn't mean it was ever any good!
Time to start my own traditions methinks. Christmas is now sorted (isle of skye)
Dublin, Prague, Edinburgh and Paris are leading the race for New Year.
What was shit about Dublin Owen mate?

Maybe shit or rubbish was wrong. It was just like any other generic night out in any generic city. In fairness, we only had 36 hours there.

Not been to any of those places specifically for New Year, but all round, Edinburgh leads the race for me - I effin' love it.
It's a gorgeous romantic place and just the right size to accomodate a big, yet enclosed, party.
Paris is amazing too but it's soooo huuuuge I think the NY celebrations might be a bit scattered.
Dublin was a big letdown. It's not the most attractive place and IMO seems to lack a bit of oomph. I didn't have an unpleasant time there as such, but it just didn't grab me at all.
Prague, I have not been to so can't comment.

Re: Dublin for New Year?
If I were to rate the last three new years, Spain>Dublin>Wakefield.
So, er, avoid Wakefield.

Re: Dublin for New Year?
Tom - Dublin is ok for new years as long as you are near city centre ...the place is bedlam so gets really jampacked and cabs are a huge problem...Its been years since I've done city centre on NYE as it can get very messy ...last 3 years I've gotten Frames tickets and go to the gig instead .much better than some random pub and theres loads of acts join them onstage to jam with them like Damian Rice ,or the guy from snow patrol
If you are serious about dublin ,letme know what price range you are looking at ,and of course whether or not this is to woo a particular bird ...these things determine greatly where reccomend

Re: Dublin for New Year?
Tom R. We have an opening for a band to play at our towns Hogamany party. It would be a small set the headliners are called 'whisky'
Good band.
If you fancy a support set let me know you lot are probably much better but unless your songs refer to beer, whisky and fighting you would not stand a chance of my commmittteeeee saying yes.

Re: Dublin for New Year?
thanks for for rectifying that one TPB.
Ey Gav, if I do come to Dublin or New Year do you reckon I could get close enough to the guy from Snow Patrol to stab him in the face with broken glass and then pour vinegar in it?
That would serve that cunt well right for the aural Aids he's been serving up.

Re: Dublin for New Year?
personally id think that the big holidays would be the worst time to visit dublin as its generally mayhem and more over priced than usual.
id check out somewhere random in europe or just put a load of cities or towns across europe in a hat and see what comes out.

Re: Dublin for New Year?
I've only been to Dublin once, and like others have said, found it quite underwhelming. Not shit, but no better than say, Leeds.
