Albert Speer's baby, the Great Dome was supposed to be able to hold 180,000 people, although architects have disagreed over whether the acoustics would have meant the speaker in the hall wouldn't have been heard at all, or if his voice would have been amplified by the design of the hall so much that it would have caused deafness!

Are you looking inspiration or someone to give you what you need?
I'm just sat reading through some books, journals and websites for some inspiration for a brief. So far I have:
Sensory rehabilitation centre
Genetic engineering lab and gallery
Sports Academy of Sheffield
Cyborg/ Human upgrade facility
Multi-faith funeral chapel (or one based on future technologies i.e. cryogenic freezing and that freezy smashy thing the Scandos do)

Do you have a specific site in mind? or an imaginary blank, flat featureless site. The site, and the surroundings should inform how you go forward.

No site as of yet, I just want to have an ida of something I'd like to design. The site will either be Leeds or Sheffield city centre/fringes, anywhere I like really. I know how I'm going to approach the design aspect it's just hitting the ground running with some ideas for a brief; it'll save me some time later on.
Hopkins are the best I have ever worked with. Design that actually makes sense and not design rhetoric to hide a money making excerise. Some other good stuff on their website too. I can get you design statement for this one too.
I would also like the idea of doing a prison. Crime and punishment would be a great theme in a building. So much possibility to go in many directions.
A prison is quite a nice idea, I'm really looking to do something which ether doesn't exist yet (ie Cryogenics) or to take something considered ordinary (a prison, a shop, funeral chapel) and do something different with it.A prison would give a really tight brief and there's a lot to be though of in the way it functions.

I like the idea a glass/ part clear prison with an oppressive scale, with great views outwards to punish the inmates, show them what they are missing. Perhaps with blinds/shutters to close off views at certain times of the day, or one way glass to show them off to public but not be able to see out. Also it would have to be overbearing and formal to reinforce the punishment element.
I was struck by the idea when I went to Alcatraz. Some of the inmates could see San Fran bay and the boat club. On new year they would have a party with fireworks and the inmates would be left with only their regrets looking out onto one of the biggest parties of the year.

Definitely an option; again it plays on this idea of making the ordinary extraordinary.
My idea behind a multi-faith funeral chapel is more to have it as a centre for the celebration of life/death. It would include areas for people of all faith (or not as it may be) to perform their rituals, this is reflected in the architecture.
