Poxy motorways
I usually get up at 6am, leave home by about 6.35 and reach work by 7. Since I now have a full time Mrs Lurtz and we spend most nights either in her flat or mine (we live in the same building) it seemed a bit unfair that she has to wake up at such an ungodly hour every day to either go back to her own flat or to lock her door after I've left. So I decided to start coming into work an hour later.
The result? A journey along two junctions (J25 to J27) of the M fucking 62 took me just over an hour. Twenty five minutes to get between J25 and J26. What an absolute fucking joke. Then when I got to work, the car park I use was nearly full so I had to park right at the far end, furthest away from my office so I got fucking piss soaked wet bastard through walking to the office.
The most annoying thing is that I work alongside the Highways Agency and I do a lot of studies on congestion, traffic flow etc. Now I know how people feel. Bollocks to the idea of being nice. Mrs Lurtz can have a key to my flat and let herself out whatever time she likes. I'm back in at 7am tomorrow.

Re: Poxy motorways
The M62 from Leeds to Saddleworth and the reverse, is pointless between certain times of the day.
If you're going into Leeds I'd use the A58

Re: Poxy motorways
A58 is a nightmare during rush hour though Hammy. I'd have to pick it up at Wyke then go up past the M606 then fight my way through Leeds city centre to get to the office. Far more potential road rage there than sitting in stationary traffic listening to Nicky Campbell and his amusing take on the Olympic Games.

Re: Poxy motorways
Just got back from a week of driving single track roads in the Highlands and the Greater (sic) Manchester conurb is a shock to the system. Had a meeting in Glasgow yesterday morning. Left Sheff at 5am. Snake, M67, M60, M61, M6, A74. All empty. Beautiful drive. Then I hit Manc on my way back about 4ish. Nightmare. A 20 min queue to get off the M67 cos some idiots objected to the route of the Mottram bypass. The only other option is M62, M1 which puts me in Leeds at about 5pm. No way.
A friend of mine once met a guy who was responsible for designing the M60 and told him what she thought of it. I wish I'd had the opportunity. Horrible bottlekneck full of clueless morons.
Crawley tomorrow, via Reading. Yipee.

Re: Poxy motorways
Was sat on the M62 for two and a half hours last night. Luckily, I'd just been to tesco while leaving Warrington, so had biscuits, fruit juice and the new Empire.

Re: Poxy motorways
There's no such thing as the M60 in my book. In some places it's the M62 and in others the M63. Oh, and the M66
Those manky cunts have got ideas way above their station renaming motorways so that they can pretend their sprawling mass of shite is deserving of its own orbital.
Worse yet it gives certain people even more excuse to drive down the hard shoulder to jump queueing traffic coz they've cacked their keks.
M60. Fuck off.

Re: Poxy motorways
Hehe - I never knew either, RL hardly mentions her. At all. Ever.
Sly dog.
Oh and the m60 pissed me right off the other day, I was in Manchester, on Barton Dock road doing some work and my hotel was, basically the swinging bridge just up from the venus building opposite the trafford centre. Half a mile away from where I was working.
Took me an hour and 15 minutes to get from where i was working, up the dual carriageway, round the roundabout again to the hotel, all because some dumb fuck crashed on a bike.

I haven't done it during peak times for a good few years, but it used to be better.
