Eat a Kangaroo and save the World!!!

Switching from beef to kangaroo burgers could significantly help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, says an Australian scientist.

The methane gas produced by sheep and cows through belching and flatulence is more potent than carbon dioxide in the damage it can cause to the environment. But kangaroos produce virtually no methane because their digestive systems are different.

Dr George Wilson, of the Australian Wildlife Services, urges farming them.
He says they have a different set of micro-organisms in their guts to cows and sheep.

Sheep and cattle account for 11% of Australia's carbon footprint and over the years, there have been various proposals to deal with the problem. Now Dr Wilson believes kangaroos might hold the answer.

He said: "It tastes excellent, not unlike venison - only a different flavour."
The country already produces 30 million kangaroos farmed by landholders in the outback.

But Dr Wilson is keen to see that population dramatically increased to produce the same amount of kangaroo meat as that currently produced by conventional livestock.
There you go, it's Cows that are killing our Planet.

Re: Eat a Kangaroo and save the World!!!

Kangaroo farms would be an improvement on cattle farms so far as environmental impact is concerned, but you'd still need around 8000 calories of plant matter to produce 1000 calories of meat, so any livestock system is still going to be hugely wasteful of resources.

Still, who care about a few hundred million starving people, eh, just so long as we get our Bacon Double Cheeseburgers?

You had to bring the innocent pigs into didn't you?

What have they ever done to you?

Re: Eat a Kangaroo and save the World!!!

Misleading advertising anyway, it's not going to save the world, at best it will delay the endtime, and piss off the kangaroo population too. They aren't as stupid as cows and have a little more fight than pigs so we should be careful, they don't fuck around them.

Best just make use of the fruits in the trees that God supplied so we don't have to kill shit to eat.
