Re: The Ropen (SD, this one is for you).

Hey, there'd be no-one happier than me on here if the discovered a real-life pterosaur (that's what I did my dissertation on), and it's not entirely unfeasible, especially in New Guinea, but those questions are pretty crap - like they're led on to a certain extent to answer questions the way the interviewer wanted them to answer. I have my suspicions that a lot of these cryptozoology 'sightings' etc. are manufactured by bible-bashers to back up their Intelligent (ha!) Design or Creationist viewpoints, i.e. humans and dinosaurs co-existed etc.

The Ropen is firmly at the less believable end of the cryptid menagerie. It's not quite Loch Ness Monster, but it's hovering around there, somewhere near Chupacabra.

Still, one has to keep an open mind. They said Giant Squid was a myth once, and now it's the prize fighter of the animal kingdom.

Re: The Ropen (SD, this one is for you).

I watched a programme called "The Monster Hunter" on Virgin 1. They went to the caves where this animal is supposed to live and via infra-red binoculars witnessed some strange lights in the sky. The creature is alleged to be bioluminescent.

It is real. I know it as the 'Pelican-Bat'. It eats meats and animals.

The programme also featured the Chupacabra, except this one is killing livestock in Chile and not Puerto Rico.

Something is killing animals in a very bizarre way.

More links please gents, I am getting interested. Might even start an expedition if it wets my whistle. I always wanted to find a dinosaur all I have is a turtle.
Wonder if it can be trained..

Re: The Ropen (SD, this one is for you).

Anyone else interested in cryptozoology should check out some of Jonathan Downe's books.

Has his own expiditional site too;

CFZ (Centre for Fortean Zoology) - cryptozoology, mystery animals)

Mosnter Hunter was sadly pretty tame, Col; given its commerical nature but at least a nod in the right direction.

Its harder and harder, as time goes on, for the official regime to keep a hat on all things esoteric or paranormal/"supernatural".

Dom, I've been interested in cryptozoology since I was a kid. Bigfoot, the Yeti and Nessie were of great interest to me (along with UFO's, Ghosts and Eskimo's) when I was in primary school.

I had a scrapbook of cuttings from when Skylab crashed back to Earth in 1979. There was great interest in UFO's at the time and my book had details of a number of sightings in Liverpool and North Wales, including an alleged "alien sighting" in Flint during the hot summer of 1976.

Me too.

Downes is a good writer; its explorative and quick paced as much as anything.

Good crytpozoology section on David Icke*.com
