Petition to: not support a state funeral for Baroness Thatcher.


After what that old twat done to this city (and many others in this land) there is a petition for the government to not give the old cunt a state funeral, please sign and pass it on to as many people as you can.

I've made it a policy of mine to try to avoid political discussion on the GF. I'm a decent enough, easy going kind of fella but my political views have led to heated discussions and high blood pressure in the past. I'm hardly a nazi but I'm right of most of the GF chaps & chapesses.

They aren't going to get state sponsored funerals dear Lurtz. Anyway mate, fancy coming round to ours when she dies, gonna have a bbq and a bonfire with a Maggie guy, to gain entry you have to wear a Lenin face mask? Though I'd let you off if you came dressed as Marx or Engels.

Fair enough but this is not about the union leaders (and if you try to avoid political discussion then why post on this thread) but about the woman who tried to destroy my city, i lived through the eightys and her policys as a young lad watching my parents suffer, working all the hours god sends to just to keep their head above water, this is also about the woman who publicly pillored our fans over hillsborough and heysel, i fucking hate this old twat so i've signed the petition, if you don't want to sign THEN DON'T, the choice is yours.

You are free to if you like. Thatcher was far from frail when she was indulging in her abhorrence. She doesn't deserve a state funeral, I don't see how that's rubbing her face in it. Surely giving a state funeral to a woman who openly supported Pinochet is rubbing the noses of those whose family members were abducted and murdered as a direct result of state sponsored kidnappings in Chile?

Personally I don't think anyone should get a state funeral. The only people likely to are perfectly wealthy enough to pay themselves or have their families pay. Anyone who's had to arrange a funeral for a close family member will know how surreal and bloody expensive the whole experience is.

On the Thatcher thing, my views have mellowed over the years. As a student I went on the "Maggie Maggie Maggie Out Out Out" marches and I viewed Thatcher in much the same way as many on here still do. However the subsequent betrayal of the left by New Labour and the mangling of the economy under Brown as, first, chancellor and now PM have left me seeing things very differently. The feelings I once had for Thatcher I now have for Brown. Thatcher is old insignificant woman who will be dead soon. She is irrelevant to me.

Thanks for the history lesson. Unfortunately we're never going to agree on some of your points so I'll move along. I'm constantly surprised by the number of intelligent people* on this forum who still bring out metaphorical burning torches at the mere mention of the 'T' word. Quite amazing really.
