Re: Writing reports...
It's a piece of piss. We do all ours on computer. I do lots of cutting and pasting and then personalise where necessary and appropriate. When you teach sets, there are only so many ways of saying a broadly similar thing. Parents basically want to know if their kids are happy, behaving and grafting, in my experience - and if that's the case, they don't give a monkey's about the detail. Most are only really interested in the summative comments at the end from the Form Tutor and Head of Year.

"Hamstrung's work has improved this year. He is no longer considered dangerous in the laboratory" was a personal favourite of my parents.

Quality. Reports aren't allowed to have character any more. Bland is the order of the day.

Re: Writing reports...
"We are concerned by Adam's recent sullen and aggressive behaviour"
I got that once just because I told one teacher to "fuck off". I'm glad they are applying more reason to the important developmental issues of children and stopping these nasty teachers saying hurtful things.

Re: Writing reports...
My recommendation letter from my secondary school said I was 'unassuming'. I took that to mean I was a bit of a pussy.

Re: Writing reports...
Cut n paste is all I do for 1-2-2's/appraisals etc and change the names.
Saves a heck of a lot of time. Ads Paul said, there are only so many ways you can phrase the same sentences.

Re: Writing reports...
I type all my comments on class list sheets for individual subjects and then c and p them into the reports. Unfortunately, I've lost all but my English and Maths. I've done ICT, PE and am partway through Foundation. Think this may be a long night.

Re: Writing reports...
My Theology A Level one commented that I "like to throw a spanner in the works at various oppurtunities" as I used to make life difficult for the Godheads who'd spout the same drivel lesson after lesson.
I quite liked it when they were personalised.

Re: Writing reports...
"continues to improve" the headmaster used to write on every report, although he did call me Chris for six years.
