I adore my girlfriend, but just don't want to get married. She does though, so there will be a collision somewhere down the line..

Re: Marriage

Those of you saying that you're in love with your girlfriend/boyfriend but don't want to get married despite them wanting to; why not? If you think it means nothing, as I do, then surely it worth it to make them happy and just have a good celebration. Or is there another reason like the cost or a fear of commitment or something? Explain.

Re: Marriage

Been Married 9 years, not without its challenges but well worth it. I think the attitude is dont go into it thinking divorce is an option because you will be wasting each others lives, there is nothing that cant be overcome. We had problems about 4 years ago trying to concieve, the day before we were due to start IVF we found out Mrs Baldi was preganant with our 1st and never looked back since.

Re: Marriage

I met my wife at work almost 20 years ago now.
I know this seems like a cliche but the first time I saw her I thought to myself "I'm going to marry her one day".

Six years ago we finally got married, then had our 2 children.

I was very sceptical about marriage for many years, probably due to watching my own parents marriage end rather messily.

To be truthfull I am no happier being married than when we were just living in sin (Her mothers words, strong catholic family) what I mean is I'm just as in love with her now as when I first met her.

I personally think divorce is too easy an option these days, If things go wrong then talk, or at least try too.

If marriage is for you great!, make it work.
If its not for you then great! live your life to the full instead.

I would do to make her happy, but I feel it is a massive waste of money for what is essentially a day for every one else to get pissed up, as does she.

We are legally classified as common law husband and wife, so what difference does a marriage certificate make?

My parent divorced when I was 4 so was too young to remember any of that, and my step dad and mum have been together for 28 years so feel quite confident that I would've taken on board how they have gone about their marriage.

Just don't feel it is as "essential" as it was back in th day. Plus my girlfriend hates being called a spinster which makes me chuckle.

Re: Marriage

I wouldn't actually say I've ever been properly in love and I deffo would never of considered proposing to any the girls I was with if I'd stayed with them a few years so I'm probably not the best person to comment.

I'd probably take it very seriously if the right woman came along.

Like I've said I don't think marriage certificate makes anything different; and the question was for people who said their other halves wanted to marry but they themselves didn't. I can understand if, like your saying, you don't want to waste the money, but otherwise doing something that means nothing in order to make your boyfriend/girlfriend happy just seems like a no brainer.

She sees it as a necessary step, she would never have children without being married either.

When we discussed this a while ago on here I was adamant that I would never marry and that I was very against it, but G Richards made me see it a little differently; if it means something to her and would make her happy but is of no significance to me, then why wouldn't I do it to make her happy.

I disagree, divorce has to be one of the biggest pain in the arses i have come across for some years, and if i had known it would end this way i don't think i'd of bothered with the marriage in the first place.

Talking is an option, only if both parties are willing too.

Re: Marriage

Yeah divorce doesn't strike me as the easy option it's almost made out to be.

Seems to me that these days you're as committed to each other when you've got a house, kids, pets, cars etc etc. The extra step of marriage seems unnecessary. Like I said, I'd do it if she wants to... but I won't be spending a billion on it and I don't see how it would be the happiest day of my life. Isn't that what it's meant to be?
