School Trips
Went on some boss school trips back in the day.
My favourites from Primary School are:
Manchester Airport:
When i was in year 1 or 2 i think. Remember answering a question correctly and i was given an Airport Kids pack! Lucky or what? Its probably still knocking about up in the loft somewhere. I vaguely remember us witnessing an emergency landing aswell with loads of fire brigade on the tarmac waiting for a plane to land. Exciting times.
Jodrell Bank:
That big fuck off satellite thing if anyone hasnt heard of it. Its the biggest in Europe or something, or it was at the time atleast.
Greenacres Farm:
Have not got a clue where this place was, but it was amazing. Think we went in reception. Although one fly in the ointment was a little chicken puking on me when we where passing it around the group to hold. Little bastard.
Lakeside:
This was a week long trip to a camp on Lake Windermere. Absolutely amazing, canoeing, abseiling and all that stuff.
Then in secondary school we had a few good ones aswell. We went to Alton towers twice, and also went to the British Open in Royal Lytham back in 2000 i think it was. David Duval won it if memory serves me right. The best one was probably an "adventure holiday" to the south of France back in 2002. Fanstatic 2 weeks that was.
Where did everyone else go on school trips? What was your best?

Re: School Trips
I can only think of two which I went on.
We went to Menai Strait on and outward bounds thing and did rock climbing, hiking and sailing. I nearly drowned when doing the gauge walking after being swept away buy a strong current. The teachers that were looking after us didn't have a clue and thankfully some freakishly strong kid rescued me.
Another one was to a power plant (somewhere in Wales) which was quite frightening at the time to hear all of the safety information. On the way out we had to step through a Geiger counter thing and I was the only one to set it off. They didn't seem to bothered and let me leave anyway.

Colomendy in Primary school, Paris with Secondary school and Alton Towers with college are amongst my most memorable. Paris was fucking awesome.

Re: School Trips
I remember going to Switzerland with the school, which was ace. We also did a few Alton Towers trips, which were much better than the trips some of the other classes were taken on; I think one might have featured a museum about the history of slate. Oh how we laughed at them.

Re: School Trips
Went to Disneyland Paris in year 8 and Holland for a week in year 9, that Dutch trip was the week after Ajax won the European Cup.

Re: School Trips
Colomendy, the staple "let the city kids see what countryside is" trip of 70s/early 80s Primary school kids everywhere.
That was about it. A yearly excusion to Colomendy, with my main memory of such being how rank egg butties are after a few hours in a plastic picnic box.

Re: School Trips
You know when i read this i was about to have a huge rant, ok, im still going to have a moan. but after my best trips....
Llangollen youth hostel and outward bound type week.
Jodrell bank, planned on taking my older 2 there for the mid summer festival last weekend, couldn't find anyone to have the little ones though and they would of been bored stiff.
Trawsfynedd power station, only for the sheer humour of it, i was put in the lads group, some machinery sounded off, i near on shit me self, and we all just laughed for the rest of the trip paying no attention to anything else.
regular... Liverpool museum, i mean, it was like you could almost predict at least one visit a year!
RANT
this week i have had to fork out for 4 school trips, 2 to colwyn bay zoo, 1 to gullivers world and another to Alton towers!! FFS!!! i know they have to do it, but you know, give parents a couple of weeks between each child going to get over the cost, or more then 24 hours notice for when the money has to be in by would of been nice.

Re: School Trips
I went to see Button Moon Live at Southport Floral hall in 1983, it was ace.
We did loads of trips actually, France, Italy, Germany, Lakes, Alton Towers, Granada Studios tour etc.
The residential in the Lakes with A Level Geography was the pick of the bunch, you appreciate it more when you can drink heavily.
A week in Amsterdam with Uni was better though.

Re: School Trips
We went to Alnwick ( Northumberland ) when we were 13/14 & it was the first time I had ever been to a pub. We all got called together by the staff that night & thought we were in for a kicking. The main teacher says ' we know some of you have been in the Blue Ball tonight - well we always drink there every year so fuck off to the Derby Arms tomorrow night , That will be all ' - Quality
Went to Palma Nova with the school in 5th year & lost my virginity on the beach to a visiting Scandanavian girl , with 'Arms of Mary' by Sutherland Bros. wafting in from a beachside bar ( I never lasted all of the song obviously )
