In my opinion Hip Hop is Dead was great and Streets Disciple would have been a classic if he hadn't of went 2 disc. There is enough good songs on there to make one brilliant disc.

hip hop is dead was alright, but i thought streets disciple had about 4 great tracks and considering it was a 2 disc album it says alot.
in general i dont like all the modern day hip hop anyway (i'm more of a hip hop purist, if you will) and i thought his last two albums in particular just tried to appeal to too many people and his hooks were crap. Oh and i am aware it sounds weird for me to say i hate commerical hip hop only then to say i love his new track (which is quite clearly a club tune) but it has grown on me quite a bit...

He's never left, that video for me is his best one ever. Amazing.
good lyrics which you would expect from Nas, only to be ruined by a crap beat and an awful hook which, again, is to be expected from Nas these days...which is a shame because he is probably the best lyricist still in the game

I think you've got it wrong, the concept behind that song is something I find amazing. I think Nas made the hook so simplistic to get the message across to everybody. If he had of made a more cryptic, intelligent hook people might have been discussing and debating the message behind the song which is basically even though his people take so much shit from alot of people, even in this day, he is still proud to be who he is. For me the idea of a hook is to be catchy and that hook is. And the beat is straight fire!

I think its being ruined.
I presume you're both refering to the mainstream, because away from MTV, hip hop is the strongest it's ever been.
