Madrid
I have to go to Madrid for a couple of nights next week. I'll get there late on the first night, and have shit to do the following morning, so I have just one Spring afternoon and one evening to take in as much of the City as I possibly can.
Recommendations please, mongs?
Cheers

Re: Madrid
I recommend having a look around Madrid, maybe a San Miguel or two, some tapas, then back to the hotel to bed.

Re: Madrid
I think one afternoon should be spent in either the prado or the reine sofia, the former has some top notch older art whilst the sofia has more modern stuff esp guernica. If weather is nice ie not too warm the retiro is a nice park for a stroll, in the evening it'll be food, there is a good place just off the plaza major that serves great suckling pig can't remember its name but one of the oldest restaurants around. If you must do a footy related thing try the bernabeau, think they must have some tour happenning

Nice one mate.
Do you know of any cool "local" places, perhaps of the beaten tourist track etc?
I speak the language moderately well, so I'd be more than comfortable getting in and about the proper Madrid, rather than the version they want the plebs to see, know what I mean?

Re: Madrid
Only been there myself as a tourist really. Until the cheapo flights started to go to Valencia I'd fly to Madrid then drive on but tag a night and day at the end and so been to a few places but mainly touristy. The restaurant I noted is the Restaurante Sobrino de Botin, Calle de los Cuchilleros 17, I picked up on it as its on the Hemingway (said I was a tourist) places to go. The suckling pig was great though. Atocha station is now a venue in its own way, all restored with some ok places for a drink in the afternoon. There might be a big festival next week on the 15th Fiestas de San Isidro. For a drink Cervecería Alemana, Plaza de Santa Ana, 6, is another Hemigway place and I remember that as Ok, Museo Chicote is another Hemingway haunt but evidently is big on the gay scene but I was with the missus and actually didn't notice anything either that or I'm so far gone no one bothers me from either sex any more, its on Gran Vía, 12. Other than that any other advice would be the usual trip advisor or virtual tourist search, final place missus shouted out for the Cafe Comercial, Glorieta de Bilbao 7 and something called El Espejo but can't locate place, did have outdoor terrace though

Re: Madrid
Tom ,avoid thegran via after 10pm as it becomes a brothel full of south american hookers .The "cool" places believe it or not are all paddy bars ,molly malones is the main one and theres a load of scorchio pubs and clubs near by ...this bird I know from Murcia took me on a crawl of the hotspots ,its nuts there on a weekend
I have a card of possibly the best Thai resturant I've ever been in outside of Thialand if your interested in thai food

Re: Madrid
I have never been to Madrid, but if you're ever in Bremen in northern Germany, I would recommend the Weserpark on a hots summer's day.
Glad to be of assistance.
