Favourite individual moment in music
I was listening to Sitting on the Dock of the Bay the other day, and realised that the moment (about two minutes in) that Otis spits the words "Two thousand miles I roamed" is the most powerful thing I have ever heard. The sheer venom in his voice conveys so much resentment that it totally transforms the song from a kind of winsome, pretty song into a political statement. It's not my favourite song of all time (it's not even my favourite Otis song), but it is my favourite individual moment.
Second would probably be when the drums kick in during the break in the Samll Faces' Tin Soldier. Sheer white boy funky goodness. What's everyone elses? It can be a lyric, a bassline, anything really.

One that springs to mind is in a fall song, when the bass kicks in for the song Blindness, its an excellent moment.

Re: Favourite individual moment in music
One of mine is an Otis one.
In "I've been loving you too long", when he sings the "You were tied" bit as the music builds up.
Hairs on the back of the neck every time.
Cobain's screaming in "Where did you sleep last night" achieves the same thing

Re: Favourite individual moment in music
Mine is in Be Happy by Mary J. Blige about two thirds of the way through where you hear her voice break as she's near to tears with emotion. Fucking heartfelt stuff from a woman who had been through utter hell in her life and whose self-esteem was non-existent. She leaves you in no doubt whatsoever about the truth and sincerity of the lyrics.

I remember asking on here once if there is anything more beautiful than at about three and a half minutes into Paranoid Android, when Yorke goes into the "Rain down, raaaaaaain down" bit of the song. The hairs virtually always stand up on my neck for that bit, it's awesome.

Re: Favourite individual moment in music
Some good suggestions. I've just remembered another one: about halfway through Lonely Soul (on the first UNKLE LP), when the strings crash back in it is one of the most singularly euphoric things I've ever heard.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5's NewYork,New York Lyrics..
A baby cries and the mother dies
And the tears fall from the doctor's eyes,
Because in this room, on this day
The good Lord has given and taken away.
Still brings a lump to my throat.I remember the first time I heard it the song thr lyrics absolutely blew me away.

YouTube - Elvis Presley_ an american trilogy
3:23 into the song, when the King shouts to the orchestra, before turning to the audience. Pure magic.

Re: Favourite individual moment in music
My girl, my girl, where will you go?
I’m going where the cold wind blows.
In the pines, in the pines,
Where the sun don’t ever shine.
I would shiver the whole night through.

Good call from the Heed there Monty.
Not long listened to that track actually.
A song that gets the hairs on the back of my neck going is Binary Finary's '1999', many a euphoric Saturday night spent adoring the lights when that came of my favourite individual moment of music is Cream's 'I Feel Free', when Clapton's flange guitar kicks in the midsection. I know there are loads of others that could make the grade, but ever since I was a kid that has always stood out for me.

Re: Favourite individual moment in music
Loads of favorite moments. One that springs to mind right now is on The Beatles 'The End'
Right at the end when it slows down and the full orchestra kicks in just before "you make" is sung
Pure magic, everytime

Re: Favourite individual moment in music
Fuck me.........................I forgot about the one that brings me to a standstill every time I hear it, 'Great Gig In The Sky' from Dark Side Of The Moon. Just had it on a random playlist.
Got to see Australian Pink Floyd do this a few years ago, not as good as the original, but a very good crack at it. Still made me shiver.

YouTube - Crowded House - You Are The One To Make Me Cry
You're the one to make me cry, by crowded house
this is my favourite song at the moment, the last verse " and the planes that were circling now are gone" very touching.

Re: Favourite individual moment in music
Radiohead released a EP called my Iron Lung ,originally made as a Import and it has the most amazing ecoustic version of creep and in that recording ,Thom Yorkes voice is amazing ,the raw emotion and power in it is simply stunning ditto with Nirvana unplugged when Cobains voice nearly breaks when singing My Girl My girl don't lie to me

Re: Favourite individual moment in music
As far as emotive goes....
"When all the lights go out forever
Somewhere near the end of time
The noise will pass and the dust will settle
And you'll be on my mind"
Maybe a bit cliched but its very personal to me, really struggle through it.
As far as favourite little bit, its one line from The Hindu Times, really gets a swagger going
"I do believe, I've got flair, I've got speed, and I walk on air"
