Re: Thailand trip, need advice
I've consulted with a mate who was over there a few years ago.
His advice is ditch the missus and buy a party pack of viagra.
Worked for him.

He reckons he was going through 6 birds a day.
In light of your lady-boy comments, I have concluded my mate has bummed a tranny, and have texted him to this effect.

KOH TAO & KOH PHANGAN TRAVEL GUIDE
you can get a speed boat in to the full moon party from samui or one of the other beaches on the island (if it's full moon) don't stay there though its a shithole.
kohtao is really nice to visit, well it was 5 years ago

if you`re going to the full moon, you`re best staying for a few nights, as them speed boats are crazy prices, plus, phangnan is a cool relaxed place, the only part of thailand without the chains like mcdonalds, burger king etc....
if you`re after the mushy shakes, they`re on the far left of the beach, in a bar on the cliff, it looks like an old chinese temple, you`ll know it when you see it
oh, and try and get there in the day time, as its not the most glamourors of places, and at least in the day light, if you`re unhappy with where you`re staying, you can change accomodation easily, i hear the sea breeze apartments are nice in phangnan, i stayed at rin Beach resort, id reccommend it, its only a 10 minute walk from the beach for the party, but not right on it, so still a bit quiet, but like i said, if you get there, and you dont like your accomodation, walk around and ask for vacancies, everyone is under the impression you can get any rooms durinf the full moon, its not as easy as usual, ill agree, but still well capable, and worth an hours walking around, just for ease of mind
i stayed in one place for a night, and it was a fucking dump, then got the Rin Beach resort which was great, a little bit more expensive, but seeing as you`re not on a 12 month back packing holiday, you can afford the extra few baht for the extra comfort, that was my policy anyway
as for Koh tao, i wasnt there myself, but its basically just diving resorts, nothing else, oh, and plenty of creepy crawlies, althoyugh i was assured the spiders werent poisenous, but in my case, the 10 penny piece sized spiders over scare the fuck out of me, so no bloody way could i have gone there and experienced some fucking tarantulas or the thai cross dressing equivalent

Re: Thailand trip, need advice
Walk On's guide to Thailand:
Bangkok is fucking ace. It's a culture shock, and yes everybody's trying to rip you off, but you'll love it there if you're open-minded (not in the gay sex way).
Didn't like Kao Samui at all. Chaweng beach is a shithole, Lamei beach is much more bearable. Suggest you stay on the quieter parts of Kao Pang Yang, in the North West of the island. I stayed in a place called Thong Nai Pan which is/was outstanding. So peaceful, loads of weed and mushrooms, lovely beaches and a half hour boat ride to Had Rin for the parties.
Don't bother with Kao Tao unless you're diving, although I expect it's got more to offer now.
River Kwai (Kanchanaburi) is a really nice place to stay too. Bit of a mission to get there but worth it if you're going to stay for a few days. Again it's a peaceful sort of place. Depends what you're after I guess. There's some great places to eat there.
All in all... the recommendations form the most recent visitors are probably best because the place changes so fast. I hated Chaweng beach though. You don't go to Thailand for McDonalds and a Starbucks in my opinion.

excellent place as is bottle beach.
best advice is to get out and see all of koh phangan, there are so many lovely places to the north of the island.
personally i wouldnt bother with samui, its an example of how tourism can be fooking awful in a beautiful place. chaweng has the feel of a holiday strip or a bankok by the beach
koh phangan and koh tao are no desert islands but neither have been butchered to the extent samui is.
koh tao is great with lots of great snorkelling and diving.
dont be worried by heading over, at first its a shock to the senses but youll soon get used to the heat and the smells.
no matter what people say, the food on the stalls is usually lovely.
just enjoy yourself in a great climate with cheap beers and sound people.
stay away from the chang though, stick to the singha.
