Cheltenham Tuesday 2008

Tuesday 11th March Cheltenham selections
14:00
Anglo Irish Bank Supreme Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1) (Class 1) (4YO plus)
Short list

Muirhead 8/1 = best of the Irish in my book unbeaten
Sentry Duty 14/1 = ex flat fit’s the trends won its only start well stables 3rd string
Binocular 8/1 = 4y old getting 8lbs runs her to avoid clash with Owners horse in Triumph
Rippling Ring 8/1= Easy winner last time out and could be anything from top yard
Pigeon Island 10/1 = has the profile of a winner of this race and is an Irish e/way sel

If the first two home aren’t listed here I’d be surprised there are no big priced horses that fit the bill but the five above are all e/way value prices Muirhead has been my long time fancy but now that Binocular has been confirmed getting the 8lbs could be he looks like a better horse than Hors La Loi who won this race and should carry maximum respect Pigeon Island doesn’t fit the profile of the winner of this but won last time and is the only runner with a RPR rating high enough to win this so gets included Rippling Ring from Nicholl’s stable could be anything stable won this with Noland Sentry Duty also fit’s the trend but is stables 3rd string I will be looking for the forecast using 3 of these
For this race you should be 5or 6y old and ran no more that 3 times in the season and won your last race or a classy French bread 4y old who could go on to much better things

14:35
Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy Chase (Grade 1) (Class 1) (5YO plus)

Short list

Noland 2/1 = He looks to be a banker to me Nicholls argued with the owner to run him here hint taken
Tidal Bay 8/1 = Done nothing wrong would have won last time out but for a bad mistake at the last stable under a cloud though
Kruguyarova 16/1 = meets the profile and at a bigger price for anyone looking for that type of runner

These are the 3 horses that concern me in this race all 3 have some of the key stats
Noland would tick all the boxes and is my Banker of the Day
Tidal Bay ticks them all but last time out winner
Kruguyarova won a good trial fit’s the trends decent e/way price

A good race for forecast Trio combinations

15:15
Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy (Grade 1) (Class 1) (4YO plus
If you weren’t 1st or 2nd last time out don’t bother and 99% of winners won last time out
Osana
Sezing Europe
Afsoun
Sublimity
Katchit
Catch Me
If you rule out 5 year olds (who have a terrible record )and any horse that ran in a You lose Katchit from this field Sublimity didn’t win last time out but is the Champ and has to be included so he stays Afsoun was 3rd last season and could be the best on the English if Osana tries to make all in this race then Seizing Europe Sublimity Catch me could all be running on up the hill but the winner is in this group and forecast trio combos will be a good solution for me

16:00
William Hill Trophy Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (Class 1) (5YO plus)
For this race I would put a line through anything that was 11 or older favs and big stables runners I would avoid Pipe Nicholls as they always get stuffed
Short List

Mon Mone 14/1
Fundamentalist 12/1
Bob Hall 20/1
L’Ami 10/1

Mon Mone fit’s the trends as it was placed in last years race
Fundamentalist I have had this one all season as a likely winner at the Festival
Bob Hall stable had 2 seconds in this from 6 runners
L’ Ami trainer has won this race in 2005 must respect
Again a great race for forecast tricast combos

16:40
Sporting Index Cross Country Handicap Chase (Class 2) (5YO plus)
Its only been going two years but an Irish 1234 has been the result in both

I would say a great race for Forcasts and Tricasts

Heads on the Ground = 11/2
Wonderkid = 2/1
Casadei = 22/1
Grande Champetre = 11/2
Never Compromise = 12/1

I wouldn’t back any English trained horse in this or any horse who hasn’t ran in a Cross Country race also the top 5 in the betting have filled 21 of the 24 places in this type of race at Cheltenham I will be looking for the forecast and an Irish 1,2,3,

17:15
Fred Winter Juvenile Novices' Handicap Hurdle (Listed) (Class 1) (4YO only)
I have done well in this race since it was added to the card it has been won 2-3 by Aka Kahan bread horses Ashkazar is the only one that is in the field look for an improving unexposed horse 2-3 had run just 3 times prior to taking this and made the frame in 2 of those races Pipe had a 1 + 3 last year only 2 horses under 10/1 have finished in the first 7 in the three running’s of this look to outsiders each way if you didn’t take the 25/1 double for Ashkazar advised on Tuesday

Ashkazar = 11/4
Harry Tricker = 16/1
Prince Erik = 11/1
Dal Cais = 14/1
Crack Away Jack = 12/1
Metaphoric = 20/1

You pays your money you takes your choice I am on at a big price already so I will again be trying to land the forecast

Well that’s the first day of the festival covered now im not saying back my selections but if your choice doesn’t fit the profile of past winners of theses races I would say save your money

Good Luck

Re: Cheltenham Tuesday 2008

An excellent write up there Bob, if you're right, then both of us will have done OK, as I've got a couple of your picks at decent odds ante-post. Harry Tricker is one that I like and could come into a place or better.

Re: Cheltenham Tuesday 2008

i posted this on the GF.

i going to do a few doubles and trebles. here are my bets for today;

(only spending a fiver as i get carried away with these bloody big meetings)

£1 treble -
3.15 sizing europe
4.00 mon mome
5.20 ashkrazaar
= £180

£1 double-
2.00 rippling ring
4.00 lami
= £90

£1 double-
3.25 noland
3.15 harchibald
= £26

£1 double-
4.00 ofaret diary
4.40 never comprimise
= £47

£1-
McCoy to be top jock
= £6

might go E/W as all races pay 1,2,3,4.

Re: Cheltenham Tuesday 2008

I'm trying not to get carried away aswell and hopefully still have some funds left for friday when I off work.

Have taken

Punjabi e/w (took ante post last week)
Farmer Brown e/w
both in the champion hurdle

Being to question my logic in them both but never change your mind.

e/w treble
Binocular
Noland
Ashkazar

also Kruguyrova e/w

Might have a more realistic dabble on the champion hurdle at lunch.

Thanks for putting these up the night before bob have sorted internet at home so can take a bit more time in having a look

Good luck to everyone for Cheltenham 08

Re: Cheltenham Tuesday 2008

Having taken the below - do you think it worth having a Noland/Ashkazar double seperatly as I can only get the e/w treble up at 1/4 odds and they are both short ????

e/w treble
Binocular
Noland
Ashkazar
