Re: Listening to the radio

if I had satellite radio I would probably listen all the time - but I try not to as much as possible here. All we have are classic rock, country, and top hits stations that play shit R&B all the time. Oh, we have one "alternative rock" station that plays Sum 41 and Creed and that radio friendly pap all the time.

I prefer to discover my own likes and dislikes than to have commercial crap spoonfed to me.

I was driving along the Exe Valley Road in Devon on a site visit. Some shite chart track came on the radio for about the fifth time that day and I just though, fuck that radio one is complete shite.

I was 24 at the time and I have never looked back since. Anyone who after late 20's who listens mainly to R1 does so for specialist music reasons as Paul earlier indicated, because they are trying to cling onto youth.

I may have been a bit young, but I was lucky to find out R1 was shit earlier than most.

It's not as simple as that though; for all the shite there is still quality on in the day on Radio 1. Today I got to hear a live track from Reverend and the makers and then two live tracks from that Plain White Ts or whatever they are called, all of which was really good. Those were played within an hour of each other on Jo Whiley's show.

First thing I do in the morning when I get to work is put on 5live. Turning it off is the last thing I do.

British radio is much better than the Canadian version.

Re: Listening to the radio

Actually I've just remembered that I was in the car this morning and put Radio 1 on, and it sounded like it wasn't tuned in properly. So I fiddled around with the scan button and tried to get a better signal. But it was tuned in properly. The signal was fine. The tune was fucked. "That's not music that's noise!" I shouted.

Old age is here.

Sweeping generalisation? Moi? I accept your point of view, but don't agree with it.

There is so much shite on there that its pretty much a rare occurrence IMO to have any quality on there. Actually I wouldn't know if the situation has improved in the last 5 years as I refuse to listen to it for more than about 5 minutes. Occasionally I may listen to it for a while longer when in a mates car etc.

Actually I never used to mind Jo Whiley show (as daytime R1 went it was okay), but "we" have an aversion to her in our house. Mrs RJ has met her a few times and hates the woman. She reckons that she actually has her finger firmly shoved up her arse as opposed to the music pulse she thinks its on.

Actually I have just realised in my haste to post last night, the next to last para should have said "...or because they are trying to cling on to their youth". As now displayed above.

Re: Listening to the radio

I listen to Radio 4 on the tuner on my mp3 player mostly - I spend a fair amount of time travelling to meetings by public transport - sitting on the top deck of the bus listening to a documentary or history programme is like a little island of sanity in my day. I actually enjoy long bus journeys now - listen to some mp3s if it gets boring. Can't be arsed wading through all the dross on daytime Radio 1 etc.

Re: Listening to the radio

I forgot to say that I really like Jonathan Ross' Radio 2 show on a Saturday. I don't care for him much on TV but his Radio work is really good. When Jo Brand and Mark Lamar stand in it's still pretty good.
