Before that, I'd just re-read Mark Steel's Reasons to Be Cheerful, which I'd recommend to everybody, without exception.

Re: The GF book thread
just finished reading A thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Kosseini (he of The Kite Runner) brilliant book even though its very mainstream at the moment, also nearing the end of The Book thief by Markus Zusak, the format this book is written in is brilliant (told from the point of view of 'death' during the second world war, strange but works very well), a must read i have to say.

Green River rising is absolutely brilliant as I recall. Very graphic, I wouldn`t want to get sent down in the States. Another book on a similar theme I`d definately recommend is `Dirty white boys` by Stepen Hunter. It`s even better than Green River. |

I used to read extremely profusely, we're talking thousands of books. Can't remember the last time I read a book. Sucks cock.

Paulo Coelho
I have just got back from staying in a hostel in Krakow and Paulo Coelho;s name came up as there were a few Brazillians staying there. I am faintly aware of Eleven Minutes and The Alchemist. So which of his books are worth reading |

Re: The GF book thread
Having seen and read The Commitments years ago, I decided to read the remainder of the Barrytown Trilogy by Roddy Doyle. The Snapper and The Van.
I have to say whilst The Van seems to get the better reviews I preferred the darker subject matter and therefore humour of The Snapper. I also read Floodlit Dreams by Ian Ridley, the story of a year as chairman at Weymouth FC. Not a bad little *f type book; but found his snivelling a little too much at times. I think I need to move onto some meatier subjects; as most of my reading requires little thought of late.

With Brian Keenan's passing yesterday, can I recommend An Evil Cradling? It's about his time in captivity with John McCarthy. Great book.

Re: The GF book thread
Hope this hasn't been mentioned already. 43 Years With the Same Bird; A Liverpudlian Love Affair by Brian Reade is out in early July. I enjoy reading Reade's stuff and this book sounds really good so I'll definitely be buying it when it's released.
