Re: The GF book thread
A bold claim, but I think The Dark Tower series is possibly his best work.
Thinking about it, I actually prefer The Stand, but it's a close run thing...
Am currently reading Nightwatch - is very good.
Someone mentioned The Diamond Age earlier - just tried that and couldn't get on with it so gave up. Maybe I need to persist...

Re: The GF book thread
OK, read right through this thread and I have read an awful lot of the ones mentioned but I have picked out some recommendations. I am now going to order...
Stephen King - The Stand
Don Winslow - The power of the dog
J.D Slinger - The catcher in the rye
I currently have a small pile of books to get through including; Russell Brand - My booky wook & one I picked up today; Ronnie Thompson- Screwed (about a prison guard telling it how it is).
At the moment I am reading Danny Wallace - The yes man, which is quite good but you just know he is telling a few porkies to make the book more colourful.

Re: The GF book thread
Just finished "The Yes Man - Danny Wallace". It was a good read and thought provoking. A little sad and predictable in places but a nice message behind it.

Section or any other DubyaDubyaAyeAye enthusiasts, can you recommend any decent Second world War books?

Re: The GF book thread
Finished Angels and Demons today. Good read, although far too similar to The Da Vinci Code for my liking. Makes me debate whether to read the other Dan Brown book that I have. Cos I cant take much more of this religion bullshit.
7/10.

Re: The GF book thread
Reading Falling Man by Don DeLillo at the moment, his 9/11 book.
Pretty impressive so far.

Horrid, horrid book. Don't anybody waste their time with it as I did by getting drawn in by these sorts of reccomenders. I can only assume they are working for the publishing company.

I'm reading Catch 22 at the mo. I highly recommend it. A very funny book considering it's set in WWII.
If you're after non-fiction, you can't go wrong with Anthony Beevor's books, especially Stalingrad.

Cheers mate. I've read Catch 22 and quite enjoyed it. I've read Beevor's book on the Spanish Civil War, so I might take a look at stalingrad.

Stalingrad and Berlin are great reads. I've just started Spain and finding it a bit hard-going in comparison to the other two.

Sorry Tooth, you're wrong. Wallace's books are quality, very entertaining stuff.
