About ten pages in and it's such an easy read. Easy as in it just flows, rather than it being simple. He puts you inside the main character's head instantly. I've got a good feeling about this book now.

Re: What book are you currently reading?

I've just finished Noam Chomsky's Rogue States. A real eye opener that covers quite a bit of ground but mostly focuses on America (and her allies) blatant disregard for UN/international law.

I can't help but get the feeling the world is going to shit and, eventually, the pressure will build up until there's a massive backlash against the powerful and disgustingly rich.

I need to read something funny next.

Not so many shocks as in his earlier books but I reckon his writing has really matured since his near-death accident and his natural empathy for his characters has gone up a notch or two.

Just finished Nick Stone's Mr Clarinet. A good award winning thriller set in Haiti. Thrilling, gruesome, and a page turner.

Silent Spring by Rachel Carson...

Figured if I'm ever going to start my Natural Sciences degree then somewhere along the line this book will show up.

Just started The Price Of Freedom - Mary Jane Staples, a little light reading after the last couple of books.

Re: What book are you currently reading?

The Best of Damon Runyon. Published 1938, original first print. found it in my Dad's top drawer after he died, and it genuinly is top drawer!
There's something quite magic about old books, and this tiny little pre-war paperback is proper magic!

Don't think I've evern seen a better use of language, other than perhaps Dickens. Fucking amazing, and so, so funny.

Re: What book are you currently reading?

This is a very long thread and I don't have the time to go through all your wonderful endorsements, but I am in a state of "reading something off the pile of books on my missus' pile". And sometimes that doesn't work for me.

The last one I read off that pile was "The Kite Runner" which was fantastic, but I'm currently reading "We need to talk about Kevin" which is just making me think that if she was my mother, I would probably shoot the world up myself.

The last book that I actually chose for myself was "Stars are Stars" which was bang on with me being a) in exile, and b) a kid of the eighties, so that I could reminisce and get a bit 'sweaty eyed'.

Anyone got any ideas that will hit similar targets?

Storing books on top of haemorrhoids is not recommended, you'd be better buying her some cream.

I'd prefer to buy her some KY, but there was a time when, a ) I didn't need to and b) what was the question again?
