Re: Online fraud - please help/advise!!!

I got done a few weeks ago not by Paypal but someone just got access to my card details. Spent about £1500 down south. I have my suspicions it was a garage I use for petrol down the docks.

I have online banking so check every day now.

It's a horrible feeling to experience and I'd love to get my hands on the cheeky fucking scumbags!

The worst thing is that the Feds appear to have given up all pretence at trying to police it. It's just left to big business to deal with.

Most people i know who've been victims of fraud have had their card details stolen from dodgy garages or restaurants. I always pay cash for petrol now, unless it's at the supermarket. It's strange that we're extra vigilant when giving out our card details online, yet we'll hand over our cards to any bugger stood behind a counter without giving it a thought.

Re: Online fraud - please help/advise!!!

This is getting worse...

Call Jacking: Phreaking the BT Home Hub | GNUCITIZEN

Quote:
- annoyance or prank purposes
- advanced phishing attacks in which the victims gets a phone call
from "Trusted Bank" after clicking on a link included in the phishing
email. The fact that the attacker calls the victim's phone number
would help him/her gain the victim's trust. HINT: Phishers usually
don't know your phone number!
- toll fraud attacks in which the victim calls one of those very
expensive number that allow the bad guys to make good bucks by simply
starting the conversation

I don't want to repeat myself, but please remember that from the
victim point of view it looks like he is receiving a phone call but in
fact he is making/paying for the phone call!
