Two minute silence

I know not everyone will agree with me here but seriously; what the fuck is this all about?

We have a two minute silence for rememberance of everyone who died fighting in the World War for our freedom and apparently 70-odd people getting blown up on a bus is just as important?

I'll tell you what it is, it's a two minute press release from the "War on terror" party is what it is.

I know what you mean, and usually I would agree, (the 9/11 silence angered me as I knew there would be no silence for the thousands of deaths the US would inevitably cause in revenge) but I work in Tavistock Square, so, though I will be a hypocrite, I'll be observing it.

What the fuck does it matter to you Monty, if people want to observe 2 minutes because 70 people were deliberately murdered, I think it's a fair fucking request

I don't Remmie. It's a national two minutes of mourning apparently and the people down in London mean no more to me that the thousands and thousands that have died in this "War" on the other side in Iraq.

It's a party political broadcast from the "fear" party and it's bollocks.

Re: Two minute silence

But what alternative did you expect? If I was the government and had to choose between upsetting the grief stricken and the already against me anti-war moralists I know who I'd choose. And I don't agree with it being judged as an equal to the war (2nd world that is), just a fresh in the memory terrifying event. I know I crapped it when I thought my dad and my friend could have been involved and there will be thousands, maybe even a couple million who felt the same way. It just seems a really trivial thing to moan about, especially when considering old footballers who pass away get the same treatment! I think your frustrations could be better vented elsewhere

Re: Two minute silence

I'm staggered by the appalling and cold hearted cynicism on here about this.

52 innocent people died and hundreds maimed and injured. Whatever the rights and wrongs of Bush / Blair etc that is what a commemoration and 2 minutes silence is about. You can respect the dead and injured without swallowing party political bullshit.

Any thread about any old Tom Dick or Harry dying here usually generates about 3 pages of "ynwa" "rip". If a national tragedy like this doesn’t merit a pause for thought and bit of respect then God help us.

(and given the repeated gripes about lack of respect for Hillsborough etc posted on here the cynicism and lack of respect is all the more surprising).

Amen.

I'll tell you why people here don't care, because it was in London

That I agree with. Stuart alluded to it being in London making it less important to him. That's his right. I have to say that if I didn't work where it happened, I wouldn't be quite as grief stricken as I am today, but I totally agree with the Hillsborough point, as well as the point about using YNWA RIP at the drop of a hat..

Exactly, a number of innocent people just on their way to work are slaughtered yet it's too much to 'ask' not 'demand' if people will have a 2 minute's silence.. yet this request is met with complete cynicism.. yet when a footballer none of us knew, nor had any connection with dies of natural course albeit at a young age there's is post of YNWA, RIP etc.. thread I'm talking about is this one for Marc Vivien Foe, there are a number of others for Ken Bigley etc, does it make any difference that he was a Scouser it shouldn't:

Re: Two minute silence

I accept that the fact that it is in London may mean I have less of a connection to it but it also means that I can look at it from the outside without the personal memories and fears of thinking someone I know might have been involved (although I do actually have a couple of friends that live down there that I had to check were okay).

I'm very rarely invovled with those four page RIP threads for footballers and understand how you can think that if they get respect then so should the bus victims. I don't think there is anything more important for me to vent my frustrations on though, I can't see what's more important than the "War on terror" and our government's attitude towards it at the moment.

The thing that gets on my tits is that it's all part of the propaganda. When we want to eradicate thousands of innocents it's collateral damage in a war but when the other side of the battle fight back it's terrorism; how is that right? It's all part of the process of making everyone scared so that they can cut down liberties and bring in laws and policies that they shouldn't be.

Note to Hermes: The day my political and idealogical views don't clash with yours is the day I need to take a cold hard look at myself.

Re: Two minute silence

whilst i'll be observing, i work and live in london so it could quite easily of been me. I'm always out and about all the time during working hours, it does remind that bombings like 7/7 happen every day in baghdad and something like 65 people are killed every day in Iraq.

Can you imagine the state of the UK if we had something of that scale every day just for a week, never mind every day for 4 years.

The fact that you spend hours typing out a defence of the murderers of innocent people but can't spare two minutes for the people they have killed says a lot about you Stu.

Go strap on your bomb belt, the train will be along in a minute.

I can't understand how you could say this. Those '70-odd people', as you said, were innocent people going to work to earn money to bring home to their family and they never got back home.

Your a very sad man and I would say you should be banned from this forum for saying something like this but it will never happen cause your a regular.
