Do PCs play multi-region DVDs? I want a DVD for work that isonly available for Region 1. However, I obviously don't want to buy if it'll be utterly useless.

They are usually locked to a region and you can only change it about 3 times before it locks.

You can find firmware hacks that will unlock them permanently though...

Look for software called AnyDVD by Slysoft, and all your region/copying protected DVD problems will be over.

Is this stuff legal? It's a work laptop and I want to use it (in this case) for work-related reasons.

It's certainly legal, it the use you put it for that could possibly not be. Just using to play region protected discs is, I imagine, nowt to worry about.


Using it to help clone shitloads of copy-protected Hungarian midget porn to sell on Greatie Market probably is not.

I can help with an, erm, "evaluation copy" of said software should you wish to try before you buy. Of course I expect you to promise to buy it once you have tested it to your satisfaction....
