I Use a mac and would like to record a video that is streaming from a website, I can't download the video. Is there anything I can use to record it.

There are several programs out there that can grab content off youtube. Probably the reason your normal program can't grab it, is because youtube is using flash to display the content, which your recorder doesn't know about. Search for grab and youtube on google. Oh yeah, when its downloaded, it is as a flv file, so you either need a flv viewer to play the content, or a converter to convert from flv to something else.

What kind of content, i.e. what format is it streamed in? Depending on which format, you'll need different recorders/"grabbers". Or maybe the persons which has the website, hasn't been clever enough, so they have just embedded the url, which point to the content, within the website. So first point would be to look at the source of the website, to see if this is the case, if so, then just download it via that link. Otherwise you need to get a grabber, i.e. a program that grab the content from the cache of your browser, or a recorder, which can record the content of the website.

Re: Recording Streaming Video
How do I record stuff (save it on the hard drive) from You Tube on a normal PC, not a Mac?
Any helpful hints?

How do you embedd the url so it can't be seen in the source?

Re: Recording Streaming Video
There's a plugin for FireFox imaginatively called "VideoDownloader", which DOWNLOADS VIDEOS from YouTube. As DJ-whatsit said, it saves them as FLV flash files, but you can then get something else to deal with them after that.

Re: Recording Streaming Video
Past the link from the box on the right on youtube into this website Click
And it will download to your hard drive in flv format. My was php format but just change the file extension to flv if that happens. Download a proggram called vcl player. you will be able to watch them wiht this or convert them to other formats so ya can stick them on ya phone ect.

You can do this in lots of different ways. Have a program running in the background on the server, which you call with different parameters, depending on which video you want to view, php redirect scripts, which calls into a database etc. Lots of different ways to achieve it.
