Dunno if anyone can help me find a studenty loan?

Hi guys

I need your help... Basically I am not entitled to a student loan for at least the first year when I go to uni in September as I received the first year when I went to uni 5 years ago and left after a year.

So I will have £3k tuition fees and living expenses to pay for at least 1 year and I need to find a decent loan or some advice where to find one (my credit rating is also not entirely brilliant due to my overdraft and credit cards from my last student days)

Anyone work in a financial institution or at least knows about these things who can give me a hand? Any help would be appreciated

Do you have vaseline and a contact number to place in public phoneboxes?

The tuition fees should be deferred and you wont have to pay them until after you qualify and are earning a decent wage.

Hi Monkey. Best thing to do is to pop into your bank and just explain the situation to them. I work for Barclays and whilst we don't offer student loans (only graduate) most other banks do. Also, what is it you are studying? Again, we are normally very good with student overdrafts as long as it is going to be a worthwhile qualification (Means that we can get your graduate business and then we have got you for life!)

If you need any more advice PM me.

Tuiton fees are changing next year to the new top-up fees. Basically you pay your fees after you've graduated and are earning at least £15,000.

You might be ok in getting a loan from the student loans company with the system changing next year.

Your bank probably won't be much of a help to you, they'll just point you to the student loans people too. Unless you are working part-time and don't have a 'student' account. Might be a good idea to borrow the 3k off them before you start, tell them you wanna buy a new car or something then pay it back over the course of the year.

Best bet would be to arrange an appointment with 'student services' or the finance office at whatever uni you are going to study in. They should be able to point you in all the right directions.

Re: Dunno if anyone can help me find a studenty loan?

I was in exactly the same position. I did a year, dropped out, then went back. The fuckers wouldn't help me either.

I worked. Really hard. I slogged and saved for a year before going back to uni to get the fees, etc, then worked 4/5 nights a week in a bar during my first year to pay my way. I then took a year out after my first year to work again to save some dosh up. It was fucking hard, but it made the man I am today. A bitter, twisted, student-sponging hating cynic.

That was your mistake, dropping out. They were then on to you, you need to stay the full length of the course and screw every available penny out of the tax payer.

Dropping out to earn a living exposes you as a charlatan in the world of spongers. You will then be ostracised by your student peers as "a Capitalist".

HSBC are pretty sound actually, i was in TSB and wanted a student loan but they gave me the 'computer says no' bollocks, when i was in HSBC they gave me all sorts, got a graduate loan off them too no questions asked and a 1500 overdraft that costs me 20p a month in interest.
Remember going in there once in town stressed out cos i had no cash to get my car fixed, "I need two-hundred extra on my overdraft until i get my student loan in may, anything you can do?" She phoned someone, and twenty seconds later just said "Yep no problem, help youself to wine and crackers on your way out as well, its the banks birthday" I've also been overdrawn a few times and never charged me, sure they'll turn nasty one day, but for now and during my student days, they were spot on..

I did that (just the once I think but I have trouble remembering that decade). That was in the era before student loans though. I got a full grant from Sefton and then when that ran out I claimed under my student address and got a full grant from Sheffield too. Sheffield were better cos they gave me a blanket allowance as well.
Happy Days.
Didn't do me any harm though, I'm now a fully paid up member of the ex-student drop-out right wing capitalist bastard society.

Mine was pre-loan era the first time around. I actually went on a student march against loans. What a cock. I'd have been screwed without one the second time around.
