Some people expect too much of Alonso - he's a playmaker, not a dynamic match-winner. How many times did he give the ball to an attacking player in the final third? Countless. That's his job, get the ball pass it, move, pass it again, move again. Make the play. He's great at it.
I can't blame Alonso when he gives a player a good ball only for them to go and mess it up.
Sometimes he gets the ball, looks wide to the right but there's no movement. Then he looks wide to the left, no movement again. He then has no option but to try and force a straight pass (which are by far the hardest passes) and then people jump on him!
that's what people slag lucas off for though, getting the ball and giving without looking to do any more and yet alonso gets your praise for it? lacks creativity for me and if he's not a creative playmaker then he needs to be a dynamic attacking playmaker linking up further up the field which he doesn't do either.

Xabi
Sami
Pepe

Alonso made incredible 118 passes today and completed 98 of them, as a contrast R.Keane made 5.

Are you being serious? Five fucking passes?
Please provide a link if possible.

It's totally different - a simple pass for Alonso is a raking 30 yarder to the full back, whereas Lucas' is a five yarder.
Mate Lucas and Alonso are totally different in style, totally. Alonso is a playmaker, Lucas is not.

1. Dossena
2. Arbeloa
3. Lucas - some neat clapping from the sidelines.
Hyppia should have done better with his chances, Alonso needs to be able to up the tempo more dramatically.
Unfortunately the only player we have who looks like a potential match winner is Babel - can't understand why Ngog came on ahead of him.
Like it or not Babel needs some starts as we desperately need some pace in this team.

You'll get no argument from me that Keane was shit tonight; however comparing our main striker's passing stats to our playmakers is pointless in the extreme and serves no purpose other than to show once again that you like Xabi and don't like Robbie. I get it. For a start, one of the reasons Keane made so few passes is that he saw so little of the ball. Who has to take a share of the blame for the lack of service? Our centre midfielders (though Xabi did have a decentish game).
Re: Man of the match - game 24 - West Ham United - Home - PL
Dossena - well done lad, a glimpse of why we signed him
Hyypia - although he should have scored he was the calmest on the pitch
Alonso - Not good enough going forward but cross field balls were great
Gerard was terrible, wasted so much, one of his overtrying days.

Hyypia
Carra
Reina
Honourable mention for Dirk who tried and tried, and Xabi and Dossena too.
How anyone can have Gerrard in their top 3 is mad. That was his worst game in years. His legs are looking a bit shot to me.
