Re: Breaking News; O'Neill Confirms...
you have to think of it in these terms;
rafa wants rid of xabi - this point is KEY
once you accept the above statement you then have to proceed from there.
no xabi so that leaves
masherano
lucas
plessis
for two KEY positions
don't include gerrard he is a forward now
you also have to consider that rafa's favoured formation is now 4-2-3-1
so how do you proceed? do you still forget barry and pursue silva?

This is what a Villa fan said about the game:
Im fucking dreading it.
Liverpool will tear us a new arsehole, torres will make our defence look ridiculous, keane too - carragher will have carew and gabby in his pocket, gerrard will run the midfield and to top it off barry will bang in a penalty for the reds in front of the holte. And to make things worse.......
...my season ticket is right next to the wanker away fans.
I guess it will turn into another humiliation.

Kop TV quoting the Daily Mail (couldn't find this on their site):
Hicks & Co. Loan More Money for Barry Purchase?
August 2, 2008
Liverpool co-owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, are reported to have opted to take out loans to hand Rafa the finances required to bring Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry to Anfield this summer.
The Daily Mail claims that the American duo have decided to give Rafa the money instead of him having to offload Xabi Alonso to be able to complete such a deal.
However, plans could be met with fierce opposition as our financial situation and commitment with regards to our new stadium is well documented, and many Kopites are still baying for American blood.

The fact we could possibly go into more debt should be another reason among the million others not to sign Barry.

Woah woah woah, hold the phone. You DON'T want us to sign Barry? Well Jesus Christ why didn't you mention it several thousand times over the past few weeks?

Re: Breaking News; O'Neill Confirms...
Barry has proved he can play very well with Gerrard as part of a 4-4-2, and I'm absolutely convinced he can also play a more defensive role alongside Mascherano in a 4-2-3-1. He has experience at left-back so he can easily drop in there when the left-back gets forward. He is more mobile than Alonso, and is far from being a bad passer of the ball, and can also hold the ball better under pressure than Xabi. He also has a sweet left foot from a dead ball situation, where we are weak. What's not to like about this deal? I love Alonso, but he is a bit of a busted flush in the premier league if I'm brutally honest.

Re: Breaking News; O'Neill Confirms...
Why not Rashid, you judge the manager for it? You're constantly banging on about how he should be sacked if he doesn't make a challenge this season, but now you whinge when he tries to sign players who are designed for it. Well you can't have it both ways fella.

Re: Breaking News; O'Neill Confirms...
Saw the gimp oneill's interview on sly. He looked well pissed off. Obviously Barry and his man told him to get to hell and back regarding this transfer deadline bollocks.
Looks like we'll have to stump up the £18m though to get him which is a disappointment.

I don't have a problem with Benitez's league performance, I think he is building nicely from a dreadful position when he took the reins, and what's more he is doing it under financial constraints compared to our rivals who can sign as many £15 to £20M players as they like and bump up their squads on top. It was disappointing to finish lower than Arsenal last season, but I think that was mainly down to the squad being unsettled by the owners.

Rashid, that's pure drivel and you knew it when you posted it. I don't know why I bother, I won't make the same mistake again. You are incapable of sane dialogue.

Re: Breaking News; O'Neill Confirms...
Yes I will, like I did with Crouch. I find it astonishing we are spending £19m on a player who would be our 4th best CM player.

I reckon Barry will bring in some qualites that Alonso doesn't have. Overall the team will get better and more effective to challenge the PL. In other words, you are wrong here, Rashid.

Can we sell forumites? Which other forum would take him off our hands? How much would we get for him? That would help Dave's money making scam (a.k.a TLW website) considerably.
