Re: Gillett on Canadian radio today
Just to add:
1- Bob McCown is not the most knowledgable 'soccer' guy in broadcasting. If Stephen Brunt was there he could ask the questions and have an understanding. North American sports radio does not understand football.
2- Canada has SIX time zones, not five. They are: Pacific (Vancouver, BC), Mountain (Alberta-Edmonton/Calgary, NWT), Central (Winnipeg, Kivilliq region of Nunavut), Eastern (Toronto, Montreal, Baffin region of Nunavut), Atlantic (Nova Scotia, PEI, New Brunswick) AND Newfoundland (Atlantic -30mins).
So, if its a 3pm kickoff the match starts at 1130 in St Johns, 1100 in Halifax, 1000 in Ottawa, 900 in Flin Flon, 800 in Red Deer and 700 in the Kootenay.
3- Toronto, where FAN590 is located, is one of the worst sports towns. The Leafs are the equivalent of Newcastle, the Blue Jays just sacked their manager and brought back the one who won two world series in the early nineties but hasnt done fuck all since, the Raptors are perennial underachievers and TFC the MLS team has Laurent Robert and Rohan Ricketts and a group of supporters called The Red Patch Boys who throw streamers on the pitch when the opposition takes a corner. They do get 20 000 there but its because its the soup de jour in toronto. All good Canadians that do not live in the 416 and 905 area codes hate Toronto.
