Re: Ivica Olic
Okay let us sign allthese Croatian and Russian squad players and see where we end up. In the Siberian wastelands of Rocky IV is my guess.

Re: Ivica Olic
So all these players who are good enough for us, can someone tell me who in our first team they are better than? Genuine question, as I don't even know who half of them are.
So based on that, I agree with John, although I'd add Anyukov to the list from what I've seen of him.

Arshavin would make the first team and improve us, as would Anyukov and Pogrebnyak would be an ideal replacement for Crouch.
Olic isn't good enough for us for my money.
Diouf was signed before World Cup 2002 and the Diao deal was all but done before the tournament, so John is talking out of his hole in this thread....Unrighteous, me and a good few others have been talking about these players for months and have seen them play a dozen or more times recently, so to call it 'player of the tournament' syndrome is wrong.

Re: Ivica Olic
Arshavic and Modric look classy but may be too light weight for the premiership in my opinion and may struggle to adapt.

So basically apart from the ones I mentioned (same as John but I added Anyukov), none of them would get in our team, is what you're saying, although Pogrebnyak would be a useful sub?

Re: Ivica Olic
For our first team, only Srna/Anyukov would slot in, IMO. Pranjic could theorhetically come into our first team if Dossena doesn't settle.
Arshavin could be rotated to great effect for Babel/Kuyt and would be an EXTREMELY good feeder for Torres/Gerrard.
For our bench... We'd be very good to sign Pogrebnyak to backup Torres and Pavlychenko could work as a Torres backup as well... but he's not as clinical or physically strong as Pogrebnyak.
Olic could handle filling in for Babel.
I'd rather Pepe but Akinfeev could be starting keeper for most clubs in the World.

Lance stop playing Football Manager will you. It is UNREALISTIC to expect us to sign 5 Russian players. Sell Crouch buy Pavlychenko. Well I am convinced.....

I didn't say we should sign five russians. It was asked who would fit into our side and I fucking said who would.

Re: Ivica Olic
I will give the Ruskies one thing though. Their National Anthem stirs up images of Balboa going to Moscow with loads of rabid Ruskies out for his blood in the David v Goliath of Rocky IV.

Re: Ivica Olic
Srna/Anuykov/Corluka would play right back.
Pranjic would play left back.
Akinfeev back-up 'keeper.
Pogrebnyak/Pavlyuchenko would be good backup for Torres.
Srna/Krancjar in Kuyt's position.

Rocky could do a job as backup keeper.

Russian anthem has to be the best in the world, really... It's a marching militant song. Fantastic.

Touched a nerve have I. You are making your argument sound like we should actually SIGN all of these players.

Even if you do think that, in my opinion it is laughable to say that only two players from Croatia and Russia would be worthwhile signings.
Why exactly we are all debating this I have no idea.
