Re: David Bentley
Downing won't be a back up at £12M. I imagine it'll be him, Babel and Kuyt fighting for 2 positions, with Benyoun in the background looking evil.
Isn't Milner a right winger?

If it wasn't for the fact that he was one of the most prolific wingers in the Premiership last season then I would agree with you.

Hammy... You are mad if you think pricetag guarentees a position with Rafa.
Downing will get lots of gametime because it allows us the option of pulling Babel off the Bench or playing a 4-4-2 with Babel next to Torres. Also, resting Babel(OR TORRES with Babel starting as striker) against clubs like Fulham.
He's good enough to take the piss out of small clubs and not embarrass us against big clubs if we have an injury.

He believes in tightening immigration rules and having a harder social welfare policy, yes.

I think if he wanted a back up he'd spend Benayoun money, not Downing money.

No, because now he is trying to IMPROVE over Benayuon.
Our bench needs to improve if we are to Challenge for the title.

Re: David Bentley
I'd be very surprised if he wasn't being bought to start at that money. Potentially with Babel fighting it out with Kuyt for the right hand side.
I take your point, but its the 1st 11 that needs the improvement.

I disagree.
We need someone of great skill to battle with Kuyt/Babel and a solid backup on the left flank for when Babel is employed upfront or needs a rest.
Our only weakness in the starting XI RIGHT NOW is Arbeloa. Period. We have a title winning starting XI, even with Arby, but now we need a title winning bench because our SQUADS weakness is the difference between our Starting XI's strenght and our backups Strength.

Re: David Bentley
We can certainly improve one or two of the players on the bench, but IMO we need one more consistent matchwinner to make that last leap to challengers.

Think Rafa knows this too, which is why my sources suggest that the move for Tom Huddlestone is now back on (at last).

I'm really starting to believe that Unrighteuous could be on a wind-up!

We can only pray this is true.

Bad news if true - although looking on the bright side, maybe that could allow Cattermole to come to us?

Re: David Bentley
Downing competing with Babel is hardly a nightmare scenario given some of the names we're being linked with. £12 million would be way too much for him though. We'll probably offer about £7 million and a bunch of squad players...

Yeah but which squad player would want to move to boro? no ambition, no passion, a place where you go to compete with the likes of aliadiere (sp?) I really wish they get relegated next season.
