The report in today's paper of a £17m offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate.
The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa's evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected.
Aston Villa have disciplined Gareth Barry after the captain criticised manager Martin O'Neill in a weekend interview.
Barry wants to quit Villa in order to join Liverpool, who have seen bids rejected by their Premier League rivals.
On Sunday, the midfielder again expressed his wish to move on this summer and accused O'Neill of not taking the time to discuss the situation.
O'Neill has subsequently admitted that he is prepared to sanction Barry's departure providing Liverpool meet Villa's asking price.
No truth
Reports have claimed that the Reds have made a final £15million offer, plus add-ons, in a bid to tempt Villa into a sale.
Villa boss O'Neill has denied receiving a fresh bid from Liverpool and has also confirmed Barry will be punished as a result of his outburst.
"There's no truth in this morning's reports and the situation remains the same," O'Neill told the club's official website.
"Gareth will not be returning to training tomorrow and he has been disciplined after giving an unauthorised interview to the News of the World."
How fucking sad and childish is that
Obviously they really want to mend bridges and get him to stay then
Hang on?
So he can chat about us bidding for Barry to jug ears Lineker and the millions at home but Barry can't do the same to the few hundred thousand that buy that rag?!
Former Villa skipper gives Barry thumbs up
by Tom Kell, 02 July 2008
Former Aston Villa captain Dennis Mortimer admits that if he was in the shoes of current club skipper Gareth Barry he too would be angling for a move to Liverpool.
Barry’s protracted defection to Anfield took another twist on Wednesday when Villa manager Martin O’Neill confirmed that the England international had been disciplined over unauthorised remarks made to a Sunday newspaper.
Barry came under fire over criticism of his manager for pinning too much focus on his Euro 2008 punditry duties over the summer.
O’Neill denied reports that Rafa Benitez had upped his bid for the club’s prized asset, but Mortimer is sure it is now a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’.
“From Gareth’s point of view I can totally understand what he wants to achieve out of his football career,” he told Setanta Sports News.
“He’s spent a long time hoping that would happen at Aston Villa but obviously it’s not. If I was Gareth, with one of the greatest clubs in history in for you, that’s where I’d be wanting to go.
“If he’s broken club rules then obviously he’s got to be disciplined. But if Martin goes down the route of making him an enemy, Gareth won’t want to play for him at all.
“When a club is interested, particularly in Gareth’s position when he says he wants to leave, it’s only a matter of time.”
O'Neill is a cunt, look at the way he's shafted Carson he agrees a fee with us a year ago £10m ,which Man City were prepared to pay then, then at the end of the loan decides to offer us half that, and now Carson is left in limbo. He's a horrible bitter little man. We should just walk away from this deal for Barry now as its getting ridiculous and just refuse to deal with Villa in transfers as long as that prick is still in charge!
Like these are the full names of some Spanish people you may recognise:
Luis Javier García Sanz
José Manuel Reina Páez
Xabier Alonso Olano
Fernando José Torres Sanz
Álvaro Arbeloa Coca
So is MON Spanish? And what does the "G" stand for?

Ive no idea what youre on about there RR, care to elaborate?

If Barry wants us so badly he should put in a transfer request, forefit his "loyalty" bonus etc and the fee would stick at £15m and he would get his move.
New Barry bid rejected by Villa
by Tom Adams, 02 July 2008
Aston Villa have confirmed they have rejected another bid from Liverpool for club captain Gareth Barry.
The England international is at the centre of one of the most prolonged sagas of the summer so far with Villa remaining steadfast in their reported £18 million valuation of the player.
Reports on Wednesday claimed that The Reds had tabled a final offer worth £17 million, but this specific suggestion has been rubbished by the Midlanders.
Instead, Villa have revealed that a new offer was received from Anfield but that the latest approach was swiftly denied.
“The report in today’s paper of a £17 million offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate,” read a club statement.
“The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa’s evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected.”
Barry has been disciplined by Villa after an interview on Sunday in which he criticised manager Martin O’Neill and pleaded for a move to Anfield.
If we are going to spend £18m on a player, then I would rather it be on Robbie Keane than Gareth Barry. Barry would be an excellent acquisition but wouldn't improve us as much as Keane would. We should be focusing on signing players who would enhance our team and not wasting our time haggling with Villa regarding Barry and trying to up the ante with Juve over Alonso. Waste of time and money.

Gaz Baz should do a roof protest at Villa Park to get his move wearing a "Martin O'Neill is a small time cunt who's only football vocabulary is route one"

No doubt O'Cunt is going to sack him like he effectively did with Berger.

"Come to a meeting" - the ultimate cop-out since 2008.
Gaz Baz is worth about £6m tops - just because Man Ure were soft enough to pay £18m for Carrick and £17m for Hargreaves doesn't mean we should fall in to the same trap.
Please reds, fuck these Brummie shitehawks off - end the stupidity now and keep Xavi.

His name is Xabi.
Barry will throw a request in now I reckon and he'll be a red by next Tuesday...
Looks like Juve have improved their bid for Xabi to €20.5m (which works out at £17m if you get what I just got for my euros) which I guess we will accept.
IMO given this outburst from Gaz Baz we shouldnt look to pay anywhere past £12m. If he stays for a season at Villa then we get him on the cheap next season.
No reason why we should pay over the top now that hes not wanted by Villa. If we call their bluff we could end up getting a decent deal.
