Re: Liverpool have bid for Mikael Nilsson
For those of you that doesn't know him he's a Swedish one-footed midfielder currently struggling as a full-back in Greece. The Swedish national team's got a bigger full-back crisis then Liverpool, and especially on the right-side. That's why this 30 year old midfielder - who played in Division 6 (!) ten years ago got to play for the national team in 2002. Lagerbäck has since then replaced him - we're now playing a 36-year old right-winger as full-back instead. He's nowhere near good, but atleast he's better than Nilsson.
All and all, Nilsson's a very bad footballer who lacks talent but he's especially poor at marking, simple short passes and clearing the ball. In 2004 Southampton, who only recently failed to make the other poor Swedish wing-back (Nilssons precessor) Alexander Östlund a success, bought Nilsson. He got 16 games before declared not good enough for the Championship. Since then this bearded hippie-like midget's been playing for Panathinaikos, although most fans are disappointed over his presence. Nilsson is considered to weak and too slow for the Greek league and it seems like the club are ready to let his contract run out.

Ace. Does he fit 'the policy' though? If so, sign him up Rafa.

Re: Liverpool have bid for Mikael Nilsson
I´ve double checked with my source and, apparently, it´s this Liverpool side from South America who made the offer.
Sorry for the miscommunication. He looks like Mcmanaman though.

Re: Liverpool have bid for Mikael Nilsson
Weird thing about swedish footballers.
Only very few of them are really good at club level. In the last decade it's basically only been Ibrahimovic, Larsson and Ljungberg who's done really well for top sides.
Yet these three together with 8 other decent or shite players form a very good national side.
Players like Linderoth (absolute shite at Everton) Lucic (shite at Leeds) Svensson (shite at Southampton) play blinders on a regular basis for their national side.
The complete opposite of England i suppose.

Re: Liverpool have bid for Mikael Nilsson
Yes it is. Mind that Sweden is a very small country. Out of the -10M countries it's only Croatia that's been on a similar basis the recent 10-15 years in international football. There's a great interest in football in Sweden, but a poor domestic league. There's always gonna be some good players. 1-2 new stars each year. Elmander is one you forgot to mention who is actually a bit good.
Must of Sweden's international success is due to our standardized 4-4-2-diamond counter-att | |
