Where did it all go wrong?

I was in my dads the other day and i dug out an old VHS of The Kop, and it went through all the years of Liverpools history and there was some great players and we were winning the league every other year up until the early 90s, where did it all go wrong?

Kenny's final 18 months. Jimmy Farter, Speedie, Rosenthal etc, not good enough to replace ageing world class players.

Re: Where did it all go wrong?

It was meant to be, we were like spoilt kids to be honest. The League was a given and we took it for granted. Imagine the League now, fucken hell it would be like the second coming.
Sometimes you have to take away what you have to realise how much you miss it. I miss it so much Champion Champions Champions, someone pissing down the back of my leg, great days. Getting nostalgic, leaves thread.

Maybe so, but i'll tell you one thing, without him we'd be waiting for number 18 not 19.

True that.

Remember his debut Charlton away if my memory serves me right.

Awesome hat trick.Never the worst player to pull on the shirt, but just not good enough for us.

Re: Where did it all go wrong?

Moores took over as chairman. He had very little experience of running a business just as football became a 'business.' He ran the club on the basis of being a fan not a businessman.

Kenny's decision to suddenly leave left the club in a vaccum which we didnt realise until later since the ship had always sailed on no matter who left or what changed. This time it was different.

Souey must sadly take his share of the blame. He shipped out too many players too quickly and brought in replacements who weren't good enough. He also tried to get us to play the Italian way ie slow build up with quick finishing in and around the box but this style didnt suit the then fledgling Premier League.

Moores continued to back Souey when it was clear he was taking us nowhere and by this time, our dominance was well and truely in the history books. Moores could have floated the club (or used other models) to inject huge amounts of cash to rebuild Anfield but in the end did minor cosmetic changes which resulted in Anfield still having one of the smallest capacities of the 'big' clubs.

Re: Where did it all go wrong?

I think it all started with the Hillsborough disaster. That led directly to Dalglish leaving, and you can basically trace the decline from there.

What went wrong? Mancs sorted their act out with Fergie and we went the opposite way.

If like Speedie they were brought in to help us over the line I wouldn't mind, but Ronny was in the £1m bracket. I'm not sure we bought much quality 89-91.

Hired Slasher Boersma to cripple most of the first team. Bought shit players. After a season when we were desparately short of goals, he sold our two top scorers - both to Villa. And he sold his arse to the Scum.

(OK, that last one probably had nothing to do with form on the pitch, but it's pretty fucking low all the same.)

Re: Where did it all go wrong?

The Premiership - "A whole new ball game" - and the absolute dominance of filthy lucre.

Liverpool have had a few seasons in which we have performed brilliantly - at times we've produced a season worthy of champions - but nobody can really compete with teams who can throw millions around the way the Mancs and the Rentboys do. If any team gets a player who looks decent, they can make multi-million pound offers without breaking sweat. And the Prem and the Champions League are structured to make this dire situation worse.

Re: Where did it all go wrong?

Yeah i recall souness first full season 91/92 we were dreadful at times but we had a terrible injury list, what was the storywith Boarsma? Was it his training methods?

We finished that season strong enough, won the cup and stopped mancs winning the league but it papered over the cracks cos the following seaon92/93 when football began we were embarrasing pure and simple!!! Thats were it went wrong for me.
