Stadium work starts in September

from sly sports

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has assured fans that work on the club's new Stanley Park stadium will go ahead as planned.

There have been constant doubts surrounding the proposed move to a new 60,000 - seat stadium at Stanley Park because of finances and the unrest in the Anfield boardroom between Hicks and co-owner George Gillett.

Liverpool City Council gave the green light for the new ground last week after granting planning permission and Hicks says work will begin in September and be open for 2011.

"Site work will start in September and actual construction in late October/early November, with completion in time for the season starting in August 2011," Hicks told the Sunday Mirror.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez welcomed the news on the stadium and says it is vital Liverpool move to a new home so as to bring more money into the club.

"I am concentrating on my team right now but it's clear it will be a massive help to Liverpool to have a bigger stadium," said the Spaniard. "To get larger crowds will help bring in money to sign top players," said Benitez.

Whats the chances it will

I am so underwhelmed that we've dropped from 70,000+ to 60,000. What a crock of shite really.

Watch the cost spiral. If we haven't tied a main contractor to an Agreed Maximum Price then the cost could go sky high.

We haven't because we've never had permission for more than 60,000 anyway.

It was always going to start at 60,000 with the capacity increased as agreements on infrastructure etc were reached.

We'll stay on 60k though and even by some miracle the train line was opened and we go to 70k its still too small in my opinion.

Atk did post this a few weeks ago, something about the builders only have one massive digger and the next time its available is September.

poeple are moaning about the cost being around £350m, if it was bigger over 70,000 it would cost more

Maybe Atk didnt mention the digger but someone did.

By 'massive digger' we are'nt talking about a JCB I think its one of those fuck off channel tunnel type diggers.

Re: Stadium work starts in September

It'll be bigger than the emirates.

Even at a conservative £30 a ticket 61000 would bring in 1.8 million per game. That's before you even begin to factor in the specially built corporate sections, increased prices, variations in prices between sections.

That's the way to approach business, fuck it as long as it's bigger than your rivals.

I know but the mancs will see 80,000 before Demento leaves and if they ever work out a way of building over the train track with the train going under it then they'll probably go to 90.

So?

This isn't a competition with the Mancs over who has the bigger stadium.

Isn't Gillette on record as saying that Arsenal take the most money per fan at every home game and that is something they will be looking to do?
