Is there logic in signing noone this summer?

I keep hearing that the American's are skint and Rafa is operating on a small budget although he has spent a lot under the Americans, and I see him going for expensive players we don't need like Gareth Barry.. but let's just say we don't have money...

Is there then logic in not buying anyone at all? We will have Agger back, Lucas and Babel will have had a year under their belts and Gerrard seems to be playing alongside Torres really well. Players like Nemeth and Plessis will also make a breakthrough next season IMO.

So rather than buy the Degan's and Milner's for the sake of buying, why not keep the squad together and just sell the deadwood we hardly use like Riise and Crouch? The team will improve just playing together more, the spirit and togetherness will improve too.

The revolving door policy means instability and yet more players adjusting. I haven't been inspired by a single link this summer, so rather than buy players no better than what we already have or buy expensive players that will get us more into debt, would it be better to hold fire (adjust expectations on Rafa at the same time) and not buy anyone until we have the money to buy really top draw?

So I ask again...

Should we only buy players who significantly improve the TEAM?

Rash you have more polls than the construction and the I.T. industries combined. Do you get paid by some Internet Monopoly to promote the use of radio buttons?

Quite pointless poll, but since it's here...
IMO only players to improve the first 11. Unless a shitload of squadplayers leave.

The post isn't pointless.... we have only been linked with squad players this summer and I find that worrying.. I'd rather not sign anyone and let the young lads have a go.

Re: Is there logic in signing noone this summer?

We need to attack the League Title more, oddly enough.

Regardless of Rafa's obligatory cluster of squaddies and prospects, however many players of Torres' level, or a vast improvement on the player he replaces, is essential to me.

Position irrelevant, the difference Agger, Skrtel, Mascherano and Torres make and the value each one has rather than a number of squad players, is immeasurable.

One per year would do me, as long as they're hungry to embrace LFC.

If not, I'm all in for summer of Texan cuntquotes, countless Jimmy Milner's and the NOTW doing "exposes" with that pic they always use of the Club crest breaking in half all over the back page.

Re: Is there logic in signing noone this summer?

I think this is just Rash going at it a different angle. Rash what you mean is if we do not sign the high profile signings you would like, you would prefer us to sign no one.

I actually agree in a way and I think most do. Not maybe with your choice of player but what we need is quality in a few areas.
The thing to remember Rash is do not get carried away with who we are being linked with but who we actually sign.
Until I see the red jersey on they are not a red. Let us see what unfolds and then how it ends up this time next year.

Re: Is there logic in signing noone this summer?

The less players we sing the better. We have a squad of players who know the system and who are familiar with each other. Continuity is the key to winning the league in my opinion and bringing in 5 or 6 players each summer has not helped us the last few years. Just like with rotation, it is important to play with as little changes as possible each game.

I know a prominent person on here who has spoken to people close to the club. People I trust have told me that we are going after more squad players and Rafa has privately admitted that we won't challenge for the league for another 2 years. That disturbs me but if it is true, I'd rather keep the lads we have and give the young players a go...I don't want us to be a holiday camp. So if we have no money then let's go with youth and with the players who we have.. they know and love the clib and will improve just by playing together and team spirit/togetherness.

Re: Is there logic in signing noone this summer?

Its May 11th you soft bastard.

Its amazing how the NOTW and Daily Mail etc can be dismissed as know nothing, shit stirring comics when it suits, but the first time there is a link that people (a couple in particular) don't like, then all of a sudden its taken as Gospel and Rafa should be sacked.

Chris Bascombe writes something that people like to read and he is a visionary messiah, a good red and the dude who is smoking out the bad guys and the first time he writes something people don't like he is a cunt writing for a cunt of paper.

Too much kneejerking going on and some people need to be pulling their g strings out of their arse cracks and chill the fuck out.

Giving yourself a coronary over speculation isn't even a good hobby, nevermind a good career.

"Lets sign him", "No, lets sign him", "lets sign nobody"....fuck me, this is going to be a long old Summer, the current season hasn't even finished yet and already the usual suspects are reaching near meltdown over the first couple of players we are linked with.

That is the bit I agree with Rash. If we cannot get better in, then let us stick
