Another above average player ends his career. Whoopeedoo. He's no Teddy Sheringham.

Re: A tribute to Rui Costa

Vladimir Smicer has scored 2 goals in 7 games for his new club, Slavia. I wonder what is up with Vladi, anybody know? I guess he is injured again as 7 games is not many.

Technically, he was excellent, but you need more than that to be a legend of the game.

For me, he always showed his ability in flashes but I'd hardly call him a great of the modern age.

Re: A tribute to Rui Costa

Rui Costa was an amazing player dont get that wrong people. Growing up he was one of my favourite players to watch, they way he used to glide past players and play the most delicate of passes used to mesmirise me. Players like Rui Costa are what made me fall in love with the game.

Rui costa . Oh lets all have a thread on that fucking boss player. There would be about 100 players I could think of for doing a fucking ''TRIBUTE'' to before him.
I'm a half decent footballer (obviously not a pro) but it's bollocks to go on about it on a football forum so don't assume anything.

I can start a thread about who I want, you don't have to write in it. End of story.

Agreed.

As for those who fell in love with the game after watching the likes of Rui Costa can you tell me when you actually fell in love with Liverpool? Just out of interest.

Re: A tribute to Rui Costa

I agree with Rashid. I actually saw Rui Costa play in Denmark at the start of this season for Benfica and he was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. A joy to watch.

But he probably did underachieve.

Liverpool have always been my team dont be mistaken , but when your young and you watch players like Rui Costa, Zidane, Laudrup etc doing magical things with the ball it ropes you into the game a bit more, well for me anyway. As well as being a Liverpool fan im a fan of football as well, therefore i enjoy watching wondeful players from all over doing stuff i and many other players even can only dream of.

Yes me too but not at the detriment of Liverpool. I'll watch anyone from everywhere but I just think the praise of Rui Costa is a bit OTT thats all. He was good but he's no Laudrup (either one) and he's certainly no Zizou.

Costa is a good player to me and I will pay tribute to whoever I want. He had class, skill and an amazing eye for a pass. He was world class... without a doubt.

Fair enough Rash. For me to be world class you have to be driven and have something to show for it at the end of your career.

For me he was'nt that driven.

We'll agree to disagree, I still love you.

Fair play mate.. but he did stay with Fiorentina too long even so, he won a Scudetto and a Champions League medal. He just had everything I'd look for in an attacking play maker.. I love the original number 10's. I wish we had one!

I'd have Costa over Brian Laudrup, and I think most Danes would agree with this.

Michael, however, is an entirely different matter.
