Re: Martin Oneill

He needs to shut his dirty mouth the cock eye.

I used to like him, now he joins the Wenger club.

No. I will forever spell it as one word.

Re: Martin Oneill

I quite like O'Neill, and I believe The Echo shouldn't have been running stories about our bid for Barry prior to the last game, but if he stopped to think for a moment, what actually was The Echo's agenda?

O'Neill has assumed it was Liverpool-inspired. But in fact, it came just before a vital game where Everton were favourites to lose to Arsenal, and a Villa win would likely have put them level and in the driving seat for the UEFA Cup place. Who benefitted from that 'disruption'? Certainly not Liverpool, who no longer had anything to play for. If he stopped to think, then surely the beneficiaries of the kick-off were Everton, because if O'Neill and Villa were distracted....

A local paper doing what it could to help out a local (for now) club, at our expense as well as that of Villa? Surely not.....

That doesn't make any sense though does it? Why would Tony Barrett write a story for the benefit of Everton, in a roundabout way?

The story was obviously written because Liverpool gave it to Barrett and it was a decent exclusive for him. Liverpool obviously had their reasons for wanting it to be leaked as well otherwise they wouldn't have done so.

I can see why O'Neill is angry about it and Dave's right in the sense that we'd all be up in arms if that was one of our best players. Just look at the reaction Grant got on here for his words about Gerrard before our tie (and quite rightly so).

I like O'Neil but i think he suffers from emotional diarrhoea, a bit like Kevin Keegan really, as a result he can sound like a petulant schoolgirl at times. He must have something though as it seems that every player that has played for him swears by the fella.

I dont have a problem with O'Neill being upset about the Echo article, it could of been left till this coming Monday morning but some of the things he's saying like Rafa respects no one and only rang him to cover his backside are taking the piss.

If Villa now dont make Europe he'll blame it all on us and the speculation despite the fact he's the one keeping this story in the media.
He felt he had to come out and say something though didn't he? The way he looks at is that the Villa fans will be thinking that Barry is about to leave and that a deal is close etc but he wants them to know that it isn't the case.

That's why he's pissed off about it.

After this season, the Liverpool Way is truly dead. Even our manager is at it.

Everything he's said has been in response to something Rafa has said about it though, hasn't it?

But he couldn't leave it though, for reasons I stated earlier. He felt he had to say something to their fans.

After that, any other comments he made were in response to what Rafa said.

And your reasons dont make any sense, you dont need to release a statement 7 or 8 times making the same point in each one. Once or twice would of done.
Exactly. The cunt went on and on about it and then has the nerve to bitch about how its in the media.

It's difficult for me to debate this with someone who has obviously gone through every statement made with a fine-tooth comb etc!

I obviously don't know as much about this as you do because I haven't read up everything about it to be honest.

All i'm saying is that I can totally understand why he's pissed off with us at the moment and it's fairly stupid of us to wind him up seeing as we want to do business with him.

I also think that saying he's made 7 or 8 statements about it exagerating - it could easily be two statements just re-produced.

Re: Martin Oneill

yeah he does that for a reason - it creates more publicity and therefore the price goes up and other teams become interested, jackpot for villa as he is resigned to him goin. not sayin i agree wit it, but it makes me think, should we act a little more like that and use the media to stoke up a players price?

Because he was told to write it perhaps? At the end of the day he's an employed journalist, and employed journalists do what their editors tell them to do.

The only thing that doesn't make any sense is that Liverpool FC wanted it made public at this point. How did LFC benefit from it? It would be obvious O'Neill would be up in arms, and that'll make negotiations 10x worse. LFC may have told Barrett about the bid, but I doubt they wanted it revealed at that point.
