Re: Juventus preparing £15 million Alonso bid

£15M isn't enough for a Spanish international midfielder playing for Liverpool FC, who only signed a new contract last summer. We should be seeking £20-25m for Alonso.

When did number of posts on a forum reflect experience in reading the game and judging players?

For the record, I wholeheartedly disagree with your opinion of Alonso. He's our best (along with Carra) reader of the game, our best passer of the ball, and his work rate is exceptional. You don't sell a player with his qualities. It's madness. Madness I tells ya!

Re: Juventus preparing £15 million Alonso bid

If Xabi leaves he isn't going Juvetus. But if Xabi does leave and our big summer signing is Barry replacing him, are we actually any better off for next season?

Of course not. I like Barry, he's a very good player and I wouldn't mind him playing for us. Replacing him for Alonso unless the latter desperately wants out is crazy though.

Reckon 20m is pushing it a bit! Rather we just kept Alonso and forgot about Barry. Nothin wrong with our CM or CD so should be focusing on the FB and wing positions, plus another goalscorer. Why mess about with a stable area of the team? Still, Rafa probably knows best.

Why? Hargreaves and Carrick both cost £17/18m & neither are regular internationals. Alonso is a class act and only signed a new contract last summer.

Yeh but the scum paid over the odds for them i reckon. Fair point though - someone is always willing to pay over the odds, Real Madrid in particular, though admittedly 20m isn't that far over. Look at Bent! Rafa seems to get a damn sight more cash for his sales than Houllier ever did that's for damn sure, so i reckon you're right.

Re: Juventus preparing £15 million Alonso bid

After the season Alonso has had it would be easy to say he's gone stale and needs a change of scenery.
He's still a class act for me and should be kept

That'd be a miracle considering RdlR isn't a Madrid's player.

Madrid seem to think or the Madrid press seem to think? There is a huge difference.

Unless Madrid exercise their option the last couple days (which would have made the news), he's a Getafe's player.

Just 2 days ago he made a sort-of "come to get me" plead to RM.

It's not a case of us selling Alonso, it's a case of him wanting to leave last I heard.

If he wants to stay long-term then we should keep Alonso, but if that is the case then I don't see the point in signing Gareth Barry even though I rate him as a player.

Re: Juventus preparing £15 million Alonso bid

I'd say Alonso is on about the same level as Carrick as a player, so he should be worth about the same amount, but of course you have to pay a premium for English players usually so £15 million is about right. If we can get more, excellent.
