First James Whale and now this. A bad week for people getting sacked.

which is fair, cracks me up that england (for example) put all the blame on the manager for dreadful performances and the players take no stick whatsoever but when a team is flying (chelsea for example) its the players responsible for the good performances and the manager gets fuck all praise. imho blame and praise start with the manager, they pick the players, the formations and have the ability to change the side mid game.

he takes no responsibility for signings or their academy. none. in fact, according to rossell, he was against bringing in ronaldinho in the first place. basically he had to keep a very talented squad of players organised, happy, fit and motivated and with the help of ten cate managed it to do it for two seasons.

there have been plenty of average managers/coaches win things at real and barca, because their system of ownership and buying power means they'll invariably have great players to work with.

if guardiola goes onto win la liga next season i won't be hailing him the second coming either.

avram grant is the perfect example of what an average manager can achieve with a great squad of players in the short term. do you fancy them to go onto dominate european football for many seasons under him?

Re: Rijkaard Sacked.

Dean Wilkins, Brightons Manager got sacked last night too. He's done a better job than Rijkaard as 3 out his 4 strikers were sold in the January window but still managed to finish 7th in Div 1 and strengthen the team. Proper management.
I won't go on about it though as we've got Rafa.

Re: Rijkaard Sacked.

The upturn coincided with the arrival of Laporta and Rossell who set about clearing the clubs debt and reinvigorating the clubs playing staff with players like Ronaldinho.

Barcelona play good football (confidence permitting) anyway, they weren't a dull club that Rijkaard took over and decided to completely re-invent like you could credit Wenger for, he wasn't the one who pushed for the likes of Messi and Bojan to be put into the team either.

Laporta wanted to build a dynasty, thanks to the collapse of Madrid that happened alot sooner than they probably predicted and they got too succesful too soon with players who clearly didn't have the mentality to sustain it.

They were light years ahead of Madrid and in the space of two years managed to slump back to a position reminicent of the Gaspart era with overpaid players who don't care enough. A complete implosion headed by the coach (not manager) who lost various sections of the dressing room.

They had no choice but to replace him and a big chunk of the team and if you seriously believe that what you're seeing at Barcelona bares even a passing resemblence to what you see at Liverpool then you need your head read.

Fuck him and fuck Barcelona. They're to blame for letting the Mancs stroll their way to moscow.

Re: Rijkaard Sacked.

Rash, I said each case has to be taken on its own merrit which is what you aren't doing.

For Barca to go forward after winning the league and European Cup they had to win at least one of them again. I think they could have done with the squad they had at the time.

Our team that won in 2005 was nowhere near as good as the Barca side that won it the year after, and although we didn't win the European Cup in 2006 I think we improved and had a better team. So no, we didn't go backwards.

It's not pathetic, immature or two faced, it's an opinion that's different to yours. Liverpool and Barcelona are at totally different places at this moment in time which is why people can have one rule for Rafa and another for Rijkaard. Maybe some of us are slightly biased but that's what happens when you talk about the team you support, and this is a Liverpool forum, not a Barcelona one.

I've never said you need at least ten years to build stability.
