I don't see how taking a chance can hurt. I would find it very difficult to believe that (say) a Voronin is a whole lot better than a Nemeth, although the former more than likely earns around 150 times more than the latter.

Re: Reserve final tonight

I'd like to think he'd promote the youngsters, I reckon theres's a good 4 or 5 players in that reserve squad that could do a job in the first team if they were needed.

He's played Leto, Insua, Plessis, El Zhar and Hobbs in the first team in the last year.

Its not about being needed though, if they are good enough they should be playing.

That's one way of looking at it, but as an example Plessis, 2 appearances this season and he hasn't looked out of his depth, in fact he was arguably MOTM at the Emirates, so he is good enough for the first team but he won't be needed unless Mascherano and Alonso get injured.

Leto was a big money signing and was swiftly binned anyway, El Zhar and Hobbs only featured in league cup matches, and Insua and Plessis only got run-outs in league matches of little significance (where, incidentally, both looked entirely comfortable).

I think Rafa should be looking to name a few youngsters in his squads more regularly, and with 7 subs next season I think we'll see that happening.

Re: Reserve final tonight

Hobbs played against Reading in the league too.

Edit: Forgot to mention my opinion of O'Neill has gotten even worse after he came down to the bench for the second half and took over, totally undermining the reserve team manager Kevin McDonald.

Fucking hate the overrated cunt.

So which of them should start for us in league games? What's wrong with El Zhar and Hobbs only playing in the League Cup?

He's played them when he can.

Leto isn't playing because of passport problems. He wasn't binned.

To be honest I'd have Nemeth ahead of Voronin and Insua ahead of Riise everyday of the week.

Been saying that for a while.

Re: Reserve final tonight

Deffo worth a fiver that, cracking game of football, really impressed, well done to the lads, and ablett.

To be honest when I saw the teamsheets I thought villa would win as they had 5 first teamers on show. I thought harewood would have bullied huth and san jose but gladly I was proven wrong.

We played some lovely football against a very experienced side, ok we had a few slices of luck but even still we deserved to win the game. Nemeth stood out for me, Ive never been so excited about a youngster than I am with him. Infront of Rafa the lad couldnt have done much more to stake a claim for a first team place.

Darby and San Jose were the other two stand out performers for me. Although everyone played well. Thought Insua was a little quiet but it shows maturity as he knew routledge had the ability to get in behind so was more disciplined going forward.

It was funny seeing everyone run up the top of the kop to do the torres bounce, and atmosphere second half was pretty good and you could see it lifted the team.

Did the team get medals? I couldnt see from my spot in the centenary, but the ceremony was a nice touch with the fireworks and that.

Ive never been as excited by a few youngsters as I am with Insua, Nemeth and Plessis. I really think they have what it takes to be class players.

Well done to the lads, now lets do the mancs and make it a treble.

Maybe they are ready now but weren't earlier in the season.

I dunno why people think Rafa would pick a player for the first team who was a worse player than ones in the reserves.

He's picked Voronin ahead of Crouch plenty of times
