I remember him as a good player in the WC, or was that his brother? There were also rumors in Sweden that they'd be coming to Helsingborg a couple of years ago, at the same time that Henrik Larsson was moving home (and, unfortunately, that says a lot!).

I remember being quite impressed by Degen in the World Cup too, not that that means much.

degen was really highly rated three or four years ago, and as you say he had a decent world cup as part of a swiss defence that didn't concede a goal.

my only concern is that he's proved injury prone since.

dortmund have also had a terrible few years selling their best players because of financial problems and he may well have stagnated there regardless of his fitness record.

Re: Maik Taylor of Birmingham???

We can't expect anything else until the ownership issue is resolved. Barry will be a good player to have in the squad, although i'm not too enamoured about the rumours that he may be bought in for the left hand side.

If he's replacing Alonso in the middle, then fair enough, but i'm not sure if there's any point in bringing him in for the left flank. Only time will tell!

Taylor will be a decent back-up goalkeeper and I have no idea who Degen is so I can't comment.

Maybe Barry is going to play left back if Alonso stays?

Re: Maik Taylor of Birmingham???

Barry is shite at left back Adam. He moved from there cos he couldn't defend and was as slow as a snail. A few seasons ago he was nearly sold to Pompey as Villa couldn't find a position for him.

I don't know. Having read what a Dortmund fan, and a Swiss fan on here have said, he is the new Voronin.

Re: Maik Taylor of Birmingham???

Harper would be an ideal back up, but Maik Taylor equally could be a shrewd signing.

With so many young keepers at the club it makes sense to go for an experienced back up to Reina who can help bring one or two of them through.

Re: Maik Taylor of Birmingham???

Good move to get Taylor in, a decent keeper who'll be happy to sit on the bench.
